How can we ensure that community health workers (CHWs) are fully integrated into Africa's healthcare systems to achieve universal health coverage (UHC)? The contribution of CHWs to public health cannot be overstated. These trusted members of the community play a pivotal role in bridging gaps in healthcare delivery, especially in under-served areas. During the Ebola and COVID-19 pandemics, their presence was instrumental in contact tracing, vaccine distribution, and providing essential care (Ngongo et al., 2024). Yet, despite their critical roles, CHW programs face substantial operational and funding challenges, with a $5.4 billion annual funding gap (Gichaga et al., 2021). We must address fragmented coordination and underfunding, but the question remains—how do we scale up CHW programs sustainably? African governments, in collaboration with international bodies, need to develop long-term strategies that include sufficient training, supervision, and compensation for CHWs, as well as harmonizing funding efforts. The success of Ethiopia's health extension program is a powerful example of what’s possible when CHWs are supported. How can other countries replicate this model to bolster global health security? Polyvalent Engineer, Nestlé Nigeria PLC. Major: Electrical & Mechanical Engineering. Minor: Automation, AutoCAD, & Data Analysis.
Burkina Faso’s Muamar Gaddafi is here as military leader Ibrahim Traore. Burkina Faso’s Jerry Rawlings is here as military leader Ibrahim Traore. May you succeed until you know when to leave, when to transmit power, and when to return to a democratic system of governance because no matter how best you are in good leadership, military or civilian, you can’t remain there forever. A commonality with good military leaders, especially in Africa; they always overstay their welcome, but Ghana’s Jerry Rollins didn’t, whereas Libya’s Muamar Gaddafi did. When you stay too long in a position or place, complacency sets in, the evil Western Powers gets to know you & your weaknesses hence they penetrate, destabilize your good works but when live and let others live, like Jerry Rawlings & Nelson Mandela did, even the evil Western Power will have no way to penetrate especially when you have the habit of grooming good leaders. Another commonality bewildering Africa is Lack of Maintenance. To solve this, African leaders must not just provide infrastructures but also oversee their good usage, set up control measures to ensure those public infrastructures are not hijacked by evil local champions and the civil servants don’t mismanage them and replacements are made available as/at when due. Yes, I agree that Africa has both Leadership & Followership problem but the former gave birth to the latter and in my Yoruba parlance, when trees fall on trees, we start their removal from the topmost one, so we must get the Leadership problem right first then that must help us get the Followership problem right since that was why we created it in the first place. Africa is bewildered by too many problems so her leaders, both military & civilian, must learn to lead by firstly making judicious use of her small resources through provision of #needed public infrastructures & creation of conducive environment (good people-policies) for the people to thrive. Enough of amassing our common wealth for personal selfish gains as loots, remunerations, emoluments, & allowances. The available resources are not even yet enough, still you budget a huge chunk of it for your evil selves. After that comes grooming and this is where the leader ensures the things he provided above are used appropriately. It’s not enough to just release funds for certain good reasons to governors & subordinates, you must ensure those funds are used for what they were airmarked for. It’s not enough to just make available needed public infrastructures, you must ensure they are guided judiciously by those under you and that’s where grooming takes shape. I still can’t understand how Nigeria’s federal & state system of governance works; federal gives the states money for certain reasons but can’t dictate to it how those money is been used nor monitor if those money were used for the right purposes. May God give Ibrahim Traore all the Knowledge, Wisdom, & Understanding he deserves, Amen. May Africa/Nigeria Succeed, Amen.

I love how Burkina Faso is revolutionizing its healthcare. While the government intends to build hospitals for its people, the president, Ibrahim Traore, secured mobile hospitals to meet the short-term demands. These mobile clinics are equipped to provide a wholesome healthcare service for people, regardless of their location. I love this initiative for these reasons: 👉 It helps save costs compared to erecting structures. 👉 It can serve multiple communities due to its mobility and can also attend to emergencies. 👉 It ensures the inclusivity of rural and remote communities. Adopting this initiative will be a game-changer in a continent with the highest number of people without access to quality healthcare services. Kudos to Ibrahim Traore for this initiative. He proves leadership is not by title or age but by heart and willingness to serve. Video credit: Mayowa J. Michael #tolayusuf #leadership #healthcare

It's been a while LinkedIn Family but I am back!! October 2024 Day 1 of the Public Health Symposium 2nd Edition. This year's theme is titled "Reimagining Our Public Health" This year's symposium tackles crucial issues, including Promoting Positive Mental Health in the Workplace, which is essential for fostering a healthy and productive work. Other critical topics on the agenda include Financing Models for Public Health Infrastructure Development, Strategies to Enhance Accountability in Health Sector Resources, and Emerging Public Health Threats, Climate Change, and WASH. These discussions will undoubtedly shed light on innovative solutions to Zimbabwe's healthcare challenges. The guest of honor, The Honorable Minister of Health and Child Care, Hon. Dr D. Mombeshora, also emphasized on the importance of reimagining our public health and the role we play in bringing about the change we want to see in our public health system in Zimbabwe. We have much to do as a nation to achieve accessible, sustainable and equitable healthcare for our country. By reimagining public health, we can create a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient healthcare system. The symposium provides a valuable platform for experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices. I'm looking forward to the outcomes and the positive impact they'll have on Zimbabwe's public health landscape. Harare Institute of Public Health SRHR Africa Trust #ReimaginingOurPublicHealth #SRHR
