For most of us, it was sometime around the seventh grade in school that we were introduced to William Wordsworth’s “Daffodils”. Ever since, the ghost of this Romantic nineteenth-century poem has been crashing on the couch of our English classes and mass media at large - being quite overt about the fact that it is here for the long haul. But why? Why is it so difficult to shake off the image of the wandering lonely poetic persona thrilled at the view of a host of golden daffodils? Why is it so hard to rid ourselves of the image of them when years later they seem to be just as solitary but delighted all the same at the flashing memory of the dancing daffodils? Perhaps because we can all relate much too well to the joy brought on by recollecting a narrative that we once wove around a passing sight that now surfaces in the time-gathered shape of a memory. Indeed, it is such narratives that we keep stringing together in our daily lives that help us keep afloat in difficult times. But what happens when the modern world robs us of our inherent narrative inclinations? How do we deal with the gaping loneliness that threatens to devour such a world? Is this crisis but only a short phase, a breach in time, to remind us with ever more zeal the importance of storytelling? The timeliness of the following discussion by Ignis Firmus fascinates me: https://lnkd.in/gtkGcQM9

Dr. Maria Montessori believed that children are a hope and a promise for mankind. Grace and Courtesy lessons are the origins of this belief. Check out the recording of my latest class for Atlantic International University where we explore this integral part of the Montessori philosophy, discovering different types of respectful and considerate interactions among children and why it's important to introduce these lessons in our classrooms and homes.

Today marks the start of Black History Month, a time of reflection, inspection, and direction. As we celebrate the many accomplishments of African Americans, I wanted to share with you a song that has held a powerful place in American history for over a century. "Lift Every Voice and Sing" is more than just the Black National Anthem, it's a history lesson, a rallying cry, and a pledge of unity. This iconic hymn was written by James Weldon Johnson, a lawyer, professor, diplomat, poet, and the first leader of the NAACP, and his younger brother John Rosamond Johnson. For those who attended an HBCU or are familiar with them, you know that this song is sung at nearly all major events. It's a song full of faith and hope, and as we continue to fight for equality and justice, it remains an ever-present refrain. As a country, we have made significant progress, but there are still systemic hurdles that need to be crossed as it relates to equity and African Americans. Let us march on, till victory is won! Join me in listening to Kirk Franklin's rendition of the first verse of this iconic song. Let us continue to lift our voices and sing, till earth and heaven ring with the harmonies of Liberty. #BlackHistoryMonth #LiftEveryVoiceAndSing #Unity #Equality #Justice https://lnkd.in/eZmKPhP9
