🌍 Accelerating Energy Access Across Africa: A Pathway to Sustainable Development ⚡ Today, I’m inspired by the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, taking place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on January 27-28, 2025. This crucial event, hosted by the Government of Tanzania, the African Union, the African Development Bank Group, and the World Bank Group, is focused on providing electricity to 300 million people across Africa by 2030. Access to affordable and sustainable energy is a cornerstone of development and aligns directly with SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. As someone with extensive experience in microfinance and climate-related financing, I firmly believe that microfinance institutions play a pivotal role in driving energy access by offering tailored financial solutions for renewable energy adoption in underserved communities. Empowering schools, households, and small businesses through renewable energy financing can transform education, create economic opportunities, and improve livelihoods. This is not just about powering homes—it’s about fueling dreams, fostering resilience, and building a future where no one is left behind. Let’s continue championing partnerships, innovation, and scalable solutions that advance energy access and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Critical issues on board! Thanks to AfDB for being consistent over the years with Dr. Adesina's leadership. Now moving to governance, a general rule will go a long waymoving Africa forward in a pace. This is the task for all stakeholders of #Afcfta and developing partners. More efforts will be needed to support the private sector because, getting funds at low interest rate is just the first step to embark on visionary projects. However, providing enabling environment involves free access to affordable energy, logistics to the market, low inflation to reduce the cost of doing business, and of course, the rules of engagement must be transparent, free and fair. As Ambassador of Egypt in Angola from 2016 to 2019, I definitely understand the need for more energy projects in our continent to make supply energy more efficient and sustainable for the people in particular in the rural areas.

It’s was a milestone day at the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit in Tanzania as 12 countries unveiled their national energy compacts, signaling a strong commitment to: • Bold utility reforms, • Expanding energy access • Forging private sector partnerships to drive progress. Looking ahead to day two of the summit, I’m particularly excited for panel discussions on: • How private sector investment can help unlock Africa’s energy potential • Synergies between digital access and energy services to drive development and connectivity.
