Important speech by Foreign Minister Penny Wong. Never before Asia expertise has been so important to Australia's future. Yet jobs and economic prospects for those with Asia skills are uncertain, and the study of Asian languages is in decline. Fragmentation and geopolitics create additional risks for our businesses in Asia. But there are many successes - in Asian-Australian leadership and scholarships. It's an ongoing national project for all to participate. In competition or collaboration, we must know our region well. I was thrilled to take part in this edition of the EU-U.S. Emerging Leaders Visitors Program organized by the European External Action Service and Lithuania. As I mention in the below testimonial, a strong transatlantic alliance is essential for the future of U.S. foreign policy. Bolstering people-to-people ties between the United States and our European allies, whether through short exchanges like this one or through longer programs like the now defunct German Chancellor Fellowship or Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship, is a vital step to equip the next generation of policymakers with the cultural and subject matter expertise to help the transatlantic alliance adapt to a new era in global politics. Navigating this new environment will require greater interoperability between the United States and its closest allies. More still, strong transatlantic relations are not a self-fulfilling prophecy - continued, mutual investment in the foundations of the alliance are necessary. For all these reasons and more, I am thankful for creative and timely initiatives like the EU-U.S. Emerging Leaders program and hope to see more like it. https://lnkd.in/eHQRTEqY

"It is not intelligent for 54 African Presidents to go and sit before one President from another country for a summit. Sometimes, we are mistreated. We are loaded onto buses like school kids" -- President Ruto of Kenya, May 2023 Now, our African leaders have gone again. 48 African leaders are presently in Seoul for Korea-Africa Summit. Does #Africa really need these summits? There has been Korea – Africa summit, USA – Africa summit, France – Africa summit, India – Africa summit, China – Africa summit, Russia - Africa Summit, Saudi-Arbia - Africa Summit, Arab - Africa Summit, Asia – Africa Summit, Europe - Africa. The summits are uncountable. Is there anything in it for Africa and Africans?

Founder and Executive Director at Economic Strategic Growth And Development Initiative of Africa (ESGADIA)
Mayowa J. Michael, ACIB sir, is it not cynical and folly at once for Africa to be treated like a Country while it’s indeed a Continent bigger than the United States, Europe and China put together? A Continent with 54 sovereign countries is treated and maligned as though it’s one small country by the rest of the World Leaders and our African Leaders continue to kowtow to their dictates. Please permit me to describe our African Leaders for who they are, they are MISFITS and MISFORTUNES of the African peoples. It should rather be Korea-Nigeria Summit or Korea with any of the African country Summit. Ask yourself, why haven’t our African Leaders moved to change the size of the African map that was deliberately reduced in size on the World Map? Let’s start from there before we know what to do with the name Africa that was handed to us by the Conquistadors who are our erstwhile Enslavers . Everything the whiteman has done and still doing to Africa is to undermine Africa and its psychological. So our Children grow up to think Africa is smaller than Europe, America and China. Let us try to win this psychological warfare by reclaiming our size on the World Map first before complaining of how maligned we have become. But unfortunately our African Leaders have assumed the position of puppets and that explains why they are not taken seriously or respected by the rest of the World Leaders. Africa needs a new breed of Critical Thinkers as Leaders.

The inferiority complex is deeply entrenched. It is layers upon layers deep.

Dear Leaders, At the Global Peace Leadership Conference, I asked, “Is Africa poor?” With abundant resources, the answer is NO. Africa holds 30% of the world's mineral resources, and countries like Nigeria and South Africa are key producers of oil, gold, and diamonds. The African Continental Free Trade Area aims to boost intra-African trade by over 50%. Africa's 60% arable land and a young, dynamic population (1.3 billion by 2050) present immense potential. Then, what’s our problem? The real issue is poor leadership. Improving leadership structures is crucial for sustainable development. Good governance can harness Africa's resources, while ethical leaders can combat corruption and mismanagement. Prioritizing education equips the youth to drive economic growth. Leadership committed to peacebuilding reduces conflicts, fostering stability and attracting investment. Inclusive development ensures all segments of society benefit, reducing inequality. Africa’s potential is vast, and with the right leadership, we can unlock it. Let’s cultivate leaders who are ethical, visionary, and dedicated to the continent’s progress. Is Africa poor? Share your thoughts and alternative opinions in the comments. Let’s talk for development. International Model United Nations (MUN) events are transformative platforms for students to simulate United Nations proceedings, honing diplomatic, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Representing different countries, participants engage in debates, negotiations, and resolution drafting on pressing global issues. MUN fosters a deeper understanding of international relations, multilateral cooperation, and diverse perspectives. Beyond academics, delegates cultivate leadership, cultural awareness, and conflict-resolution abilities. Encouraging a sense of global citizenship, these events nurture empathy and collaborative problem-solving. Networking and cultural exchange further promote intercultural understanding and lasting international friendships. The General Assembly session crowns the event, empowering participants to advocate for change and embrace a more interconnected world. International Model United Nations events mold future leaders committed to shaping a better world. This achievement inspires me to aim higher and continue my journey of lifelong learning #Isranbul_International_Model_United_Nations
