Yesterday in a released circular, NMCN stated that it has introduced the "Advanced Nurse Practitioner" into the Nigerian Nursing system.. It's a welcomed development but the following are the questions to ask; 1. What's the curriculum of study? 2. At what level will it be studied? 3. What are the Institutions of study? 4. What will be the benefitting renumeration? 5. Will it reduce clinical alienation of nurses? 6. What's its level of autonomy in the clinical setting? There are more questions to be asked when you think about Nursing in Nigeria critically. As it stands now, I'm very concerned about number 4 o, because the average staff nurse's salary in Nigeria still can't purchase a full 50kg bag of rice after he/she has finished suffering for a whole month 😭😭. Secondly, a greater number of staff nurses are still at home with no jobs and employment of nurses is also at par with global based practices 🤷. Dear Nursing leaders, the 2024 leadership conference is fast approaching and please it shouldn't be business as usual. 🙏🙏 There are a lot of things to talk about if Nursing in Nigeria must move forward o 🤷. Dust your journals.. Dialogue with some of your colleagues and junior colleagues objectively . If possible visit other facilities, get and pen down informations, areas of concerns and possible improvement that will benefit the profession and it's practice then make sure to raise these topics as concerns during the conference. 🙏 At the end of the day, na Nurses go improve Nursing 🤷. Mic drops! In the other news, all nursing verification proceedings have currently been suspended till further notice 🤷.. #nursing #nurses #staffnurse #nursepractitioner #nigeriannurses #nurselife

BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS: MUTUAL RESPECT IN NURSING I stand to be corrected. Unfortunately, some Registered Nurses have labeled Auxiliary/Nursing Assistants as invalid. I'm not here to oppose, but to share my perspective. To my knowledge, there are different types of nurses: RN, LPN/LVN, CNA, APRN, NP, Midwife, and Specialist nurses, with roles and responsibilities varying depending on specialization, experience, and work setting. Nurses provide care and support to patients, families, and communities. The tension between Auxiliary Nurses and Registered Nurses is obviously misunderstanding. Auxiliary/Nursing Assistants are met to be aide and support under the guidance of Registered Nurses. Their primary purpose is to follow instructions. In Nigeria, unprofessional teachers are employed not because of shortage of professional ones. Similarly, Nursing Assistants fill gaps in healthcare. While Registered Nurses may not perform tasks like changing napkins or disposing of urine, and providing essential care. I trained as a Nursing Assistant and witnessed their vital role in healthcare. They provide care and support to patients. I understand the struggle of doing theory and practicals, series of test and examinations. Nursing Assistants lack academic recognition, but many aspire to become professional nurses. I'm a living proof. The toxicity towards Auxiliary/Nursing Assistants in Nigeria is unacceptable. Let's recognize their dedication and collaboration. In conclusion, Registered Nurses are professionals, and we acknowledge their expertise. Let's also appreciate Nursing Assistants. Together, we provide comprehensive care. penned by NWANKWO HAPPINESS. #NursingInNigeria #NursingAssistantsMatter #HealthcareInNigeria #RespectForAllProfessionals

Need for Professional Development and Respect in Nursing in public Hospitals of Pakistan. As a final-year nursing student in a public setup, I have observed that the standards of nursing that should ideally be upheld at the international level are unfortunately lacking in government setups in Pakistan. There are no seminars, webinars, or workshops available for nurses, and there is a significant absence of continuous professional education. Most conflicts arise within the nursing profession itself. I respect those senior nurses who have served for many years, but when it comes to competency, seniority should not overshadow the importance of education and experience. It is essential to strike a balance between both. If a nurse demonstrates better educational qualifications than an older, more experienced nurse, it is crucial to acknowledge and appreciate that nurse's contributions rather than relying solely on seniority. Furthermore, the respect for this profession must be prioritized. Until nurses themselves change the perception of being called "baji," it is unlikely that outsiders will refer to them as nursing officers; they will continue to use the term "baji." Additionally, private institutions often have well-competent and well-managed nursing staff, which starkly contrasts with the situation in public setups across Pakistan. #nursing, #continueprofessionaleducation, #respectfornurses.
