Humanity should be at the core of responding to peace and security issues of our time.
🕊 Thinking of #peace feels impossible while so many are suffering. #Gaza #Lebanon #Sudan #Ukraine #Yemen #Myanmar So many more… How to fully grasp the scale and intensity of the tragedies? A beautiful fado performance at the #GenevaPeaceWeek2024 #OpeningCeremony reminded me: ending suffering is not just about stopping violence; it is about creating the space for art and humanity to grow, heal, and connect us. #Art offers a way to process and imagine a future. #Peacebuilding is about creating the chance for creativity and expression to thrive. #Peace is the space where art and humanity can grow. #WhatIsPeace #GPW24 #GenevaPeaceWeek #UNOG #FadoForPeace #artforpeace https://lnkd.in/e4AwU3NK

About 26 years ago, in a remote district of Laos, Lionel Laurens began his incredible journey as a UN Volunteer. Reflecting on those early days, Lionel recalls, “𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥—𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 50 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘱𝘴.” It was here that his passion for serving communities took root. Today, after more than three decades of selfless dedication, Lionel is now the Resident Representative for UNDP Somalia. His unwavering commitment to the people and places he serves continues to contribute to peace, stability, and development in the region. Have you ever served as a UN Volunteer? What’s your story? We’d love to hear it! Share your journey and let’s showcase the stories that inspire positive change across the globe.

🌍 A Call to Reflect on "Do They Know It's Christmas" 🎶 As we mark the anniversary of Bob Geldof's iconic song "Do They Know It’s Christmas," we must confront a crucial question: Is this message still relevant, or does it perpetuate harmful stereotypes about Africa, particularly Ethiopia? In 1984, this song aimed to raise awareness and funds during a devastating famine. While it undoubtedly helped many, we must recognize that Africa has transformed significantly since then. The narrative depicted in the song risks reinforcing outdated views of a continent defined solely by suffering and despair. Today, Ethiopia is a vibrant nation with rich culture, resilience, and potential for growth. By continuing to use this song, are we not undermining the dignity, pride, and identity of millions? We need to celebrate Africa's progress and complexity rather than reduce it to a single narrative of need. Let’s encourage a more nuanced dialogue about Africa’s realities and achievements. It’s time to shift the narrative and support initiatives that empower, rather than stigmatize. 💬 Join the conversation! How can we better represent Africa's story in our global discourse? #Ethiopia #Africa #CulturalRepresentation #Empowerment #SocialChange #AfricaRising #Ethiopia #FeedTheWorld #ChangingNarratives #Solidarity #Resilience

“I am not African because I was born in Africa, but because Africa was born in me." - #KwameNkrumah Kwame Nkrumah's words resonate deeply with all of us who carry #Africa in our hearts, wherever we are in the world. This sentiment is a powerful reminder of our shared #identity and collective responsibility. As we navigate the complexities of our modern world, it is crucial that we remain anchored in the values and heritage that define us as Africans. In the realm of #mentalhealth, our #culturalheritage can provide unique insights and solutions tailored to our communities. We must : ✅ harness our shared experiences, ✅ wisdom, and ✅ resilience to address the ✅ mental health challenges faced by our continent. This means developing #policies that are not only effective but also culturally relevant and inclusive. Humbled to be a #VIP (Very Inspiring Professional) wearing my African Institute Of Mind cap, I am dedicated to advancing the #AfricanMentalHealthPolicy for the greater good of our continent. Attending the 3rd Ordinary Session of the 6th Pan-African Parliament reinforcing my commitment to this cause. Together, we can create a future where every African has access to the mental health support they need to thrive. Reflecting on Nkrumah’s powerful statement, I ask you: How can we, as #Africans and global citizens, contribute to a #mentalhealthframework that honors our rich heritage and addresses our unique challenges❓ SHARE ♻️ if you found this #inspirational I Am Dr Joshua Awesome #AfricanUnity #MentalHealthLeadership #mentalhealthpolicy #mentalhealthadvocate #AfricaRising #growthmindset #thoughtleadership #leadershipdevelopment #leadershipcoach #coachingpsychology #coachingandmentoring #executivecoach #humanflourishing #linkedintopvoices

Africa is rich...

The beat. The rhythm. The soul. The hard work. I’m not sure I would have phrased it the way Steve Harvey has, but I can’t disagree with the sentiment. It’s important to acknowledge that Africa has played a catalytic role for numerous global movements and progress. For the creative industries in particular, there is no doubt that the continent has birthed global genres. Celebrating Africa in no way means that we can’t advocate for change where needed. Thanks, Steve! Increased collaboration with our brothers and sisters in the dispora would make a huge difference in Africa’s narrative. #africa #thesoul #narrative #diaspora

We need to stop turning the other cheek 🙄 We need to stop being passive and docile. Let the #Ubuntu, #Agbajowo spirit manifest in us. In collective success is intertwined, Africa will never manifest or be fulfilled using the death economy method. When we forget how to build communal empowerment we forget how to live as Africans. We need a #Mindsetshift Great snippet for Tedd Josiah #Oladelesthoughts #Sundaythoughts.
