The European Green Deal and the EU’s 8th Environment Action Programme emphasise the need for a just transition to a sustainable future. However, true sustainability means ensuring that marginalised communities are not left behind. Today, on International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we need to highlight how indigenous people are affected by environmental injustice. Roma communities often endure the worst pollution, living in marginalised areas without access to clean water and sanitation 💧🩺. On a more positive note, the Sami people of Finland were consulted on climate change planning. As we strive for a climate-neutral Europe, we need policies that prioritise: 🔹 Distributional justice, which ensures the fair sharing of environmental benefits and burdens 🤝 🔹 Procedural justice, which guarantees that all voices, including those of marginalised communities, are heard in decision-making 📣 🔹 Recognitional justice, which acknowledges and respects the identities and values of all social groups 🧑🏿🤝🧑🏻 The European Green Deal’s commitment to “leave no one behind” must be a reality. Together, we can build a fairer, more inclusive, and sustainable future for all ⚖️. More on justice in sustainability transitions: https://lnkd.in/e59Si3WW #IndigenousPeoplesDay!

Elliott James Ong and Alice Duong have just returned from their trip to Vietnam. Alongside Nguyen Huu Nghia and Dinh Thi Kim Van from our partner Centre for Nature Conservation and Development Vietnam (CCD), the team spent five days conducting stakeholder consultations and capacity building with local communities in the Dakrong Nature Reserve, including from the Van Kieu and Pa Ko ethnic minority groups. Our goal? To validate our understanding of the region, ensure our proposed activities align with the local needs, and explore how this project can enhance both livelihoods and environmental health in this challenging, mountainous terrain. These activities are part of a larger collaborative effort under the Business Partnerships Platform (BPP) initiative to advance nature-based carbon solutions in Vietnam, alongside Cooper Energy, One Tree Planted and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. We’re excited to use these insights to drive positive impact for people, climate, and nature. natureco.earth #NatureCo #DFATbpp #naturebasedsolutions #positivechange #integrity #carbonmarkets

🌍Our planet is facing unprecedented environmental challenges that require our immediate attention and action. Protecting the environment and creating a more sustainable world is the responsibility of individuals, organizations and governments. 🤝Taking part in the global efforts to save the planet, The Moroccan Institute for Policy Analysis is a partner in two environmental projects, namely Just Transition Green Bridge, which aims to strengthen civil society's role in environmental governance in the #MENA region, and DIRAIA that aims to bridge the significant knowledge gap on environmental activism by investigating its different forms and strategies. #WorldEnvironmentDay

🌍 **Reflecting on an Inspiring Conference: Greening the African Horizon** 🌿 Last month, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the "Greening the African Horizon" conference, and I am still energized by the wealth of knowledge, ideas, and passion that were shared! 🌱 The discussions around sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and the innovative green solutions shaping Africa’s future were not only insightful but also deeply inspiring. It was encouraging to see leaders from various sectors—government, academia, business, and civil society—come together with a shared vision of a greener, more sustainable Africa. The event highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change and the immense potential we have as a continent to lead the charge towards environmental sustainability. From renewable energy innovations to community-driven conservation efforts, the ideas presented underscored the need for collaborative action. I am grateful to have been part of such an important conversation and to have connected with like-minded individuals committed to making a difference. It’s a reminder that together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and leave a lasting positive impact on our environment and future generations. A big thank you to the organizers, speakers, and fellow attendees for making this event so impactful.
