🌍 I thank IFC - International Finance Corporation, the The World Bank Group, for inviting me to speak at the 11th International Food Safety Forum in #Tashkent. It was very valuable to engage with local, regional, and global stakeholders, including World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, and UNICEF, to address critical global #foodsafety issues. 📋 My presentation focused on the opportunities and challenges of #Uzbekistan's agriculture and #food exports to the global market. While food safety measures are crucial for the international success of Uzbek products, there are these additional pillars that need to be developed simultaneously for sustainable overseas reach: ✅ Ensuring critical quantity of offered products ✅ Developing product-specific logistical solutions ✅ Training HR for cross-cultural trade communication 🍌 Moreover, I challenged the idea that being landlocked hinders overseas trade. The journey of Jamaican bananas to Uzbek tables stands as proof that distance is but a minor obstacle. Why shouldn’t it be possible for Uzbek products to find their way to distant lands? This thought resonated with the audience and received repeated highlights in the local media. #GlobalFoodSafety #UzbekistanExports #SustainableTrade #IFCForum #AgriFoodIndustry #IFCFoodSafety IFC Agribusiness Rishi Partners

#FarmersMarketNairobi opens with great success 🌱 Yesterday, we launched the Farmers Market Nairobi bringing farmers and the community together in a celebration of fresh, high-quality local produce. This market is part of the Mediterranean and African Markets Initiative (#MAMi), funded by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and implemented by CIHEAM Bari. After Alexandria, Egypt, Nairobi proudly becomes the second city in this initiative, with more countries like Tunisia, Lebanon, and Albania set to join soon. We want to build a sustainable and direct agricultural supply chain that strengthens local communities while fostering international cooperation. With the support of partners like the Italian Embassy in Kenya and Coldiretti’s Fondazione Campagna Amica, this project bridges cultures and creates opportunities for growth. The market will now be open every Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Rosslyn Square, Red Hill Link Road - Nairobi, offering fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, meats, baked goods, tea, coffee, flowers, and artisanal crafts. #WorldFarmersMarketsCoalition #WorldFMC #FarmersMarkets

+A Vision for Tajikistan and Central Asia: Strengthening Food Security 🇹🇯+ An inspiring exchange with two experts from the poultry industry: For over seven years, they have been operating one of the largest self-sustaining facilities in the region—from egg production to the processing of poultry in line with European standards. With an annual per capita poultry consumption of 35 kilograms, they set a benchmark and supply up to 3.5 million people. Our discussion focused on key challenges and solutions: 🔹 Reducing import dependency: A step towards economic independence. 🔹 Strengthening self-sufficiency: Ensuring sustainable food supplies for local populations. 🔹 Creating export potential: Generating economic benefits through poultry exports. This dialogue reinforced the understanding that food security in Tajikistan and Central Asia is achievable—regardless of global uncertainties or dominant market players. 🌟 Together, we are building a strong and sustainable future for Tajikistan and Central Asia! 🌟 Find more details about this initiative in the comments! 👇 #Tajikistan #ShapingTheFuture #FoodSecurity #SelfSufficiency #Cooperation #HonoraryConsulate #kouroshpourkian

#NowHappening: The morning sessions of the ADB Asia and the Pacific Forum kicked off with a discussion on the evolution of the rice market in ASEAN through the lens of food security policies. IRRI Board Chair Dr. Cao Duc Phat drew from his experience as the former agriculture minister of Vietnam to emphasize the importance of implementing open-market policies, stressing that restrictions and subsidies lead to a less competitive environment, lower returns for farmers, and higher prices for consumers. Dr. Phat highlighted how prioritizing high investment in scientific R&D and infrastructure has propelled Vietnam from a country struggling to feed its people to becoming the 5th largest rice exporter globally. #ADBFoodSecurity24 #Rice #RiceScience #ASEAN

It was a pleasure representing ASARECA during the validation meeting of the #Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) report for Uganda on 15th November, 2024 at Protea Skyz Hotel, Kampala. Some of the #Phytosanitary capacity gaps identified include; *Training and education *Resources and infrastructure *International cooperation *Data management *Regulations and legislation *Policy and awareness *Planning and coordination The meeting reviewed and provided feedback to the proposed implementation plan and budget. The meeting was organized by MAAIF Uganda in collaboration with FAO under the framework of the EU-funded project- "Strengthening Food Control and #Phytosanitary Capacities and Governance," with the IPPC Secretariat support. The altimate goal of the project is to build #Phytosanitary capacity of stakholders for better food safety and enhanced export earnings. Well structured and well functioning national #Phytosanitary systems and food control systems are essential prerequisites to guarantee safe and healthy food to citizens and to comply with World Trade Organization requirements for international trade. Uganda is one of the 9 African Union countries benefiting from the EU-funded IPPC project. Other countries include; Kenya, Rwanda, Djibouti, Eswatini, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Seychelles. I look forward to the successful implementation of the project and inclusion of initiatives that foster international exchange of knowledge, and benchmarking successes for sustained economic growth, and inclusive development.
