We just received confirmation that there were 100 Water Works Program emergency kits distributed as part of our recent distribution in Kyaka II refugee camp in Uganda earlier in the week. Here is a photo of four of those recipients. We designed these kits about 8 or 9 years ago upon realising that our larger household kits weren't ideal for recent arrivals within the refugee camps. Often those folk live in small or abbreviated dwellings and space is at a premium. Our emergency kits are pre-assembled and take up little space. They are perfect for such a situation. We've now provided life-saving water filtration systems to over 70% of the people living in Kyaka II (70,224 people to be precise). We hope to help the remaining 30% of people in need over the next two years, but we can only do that with the continued kindness and generosity of corporate sponsors. Please do keep us in mind if you're currently planning a teambuilding event, EOFY conference, or new financial year sales kick-off event :) #EOFY #waterworks #CSR #ESG #teambuilding #bethechange

Early Warning, Anticipatory Actions, Meteorology, Hydrology, Disaster Risk reduction, Project Management
The #Ntoroko #floods in Uganda are expected to intensify in the coming month due to ongoing heavy rains in the Rwenzori mountains within the DR Congo. Transboundary cooperation to manage the shared risk that is affecting thousands of families is critical, but that is just a dream for now. So, we embarked on a fact finding mission to support immediate short term solutions including anticipatory actions. #TransboundaryFlooding #ClimateAction #Cooperation"

Do you need to be formally employed in the humanitarian sector to make a difference in the lives of people facing challenges? KALELE MAKHERA acting emergency affairs manager whose role involves serving the most vulnerable in Eswatini certainly doesn't think so. In the face of a hunger crisis affecting over 700,000 people in Eswatini, he and his team at World Vision Eswatini are working tirelessly to provide essential food aid. Makhera believes that anyone in their personal capacity can make a difference; even the smallest contribution can change lives. #humanitarian #WorldVision #SouthernAfrica #WorldHumanitarianDay #ActforHumanity World Vision World Vision Southern Africa World Vision Moçambique World Vision Zimbabwe World Vision Eswatini World Vision World Vision Lesotho World Vision Angola World Vision Malawi World Vision DRC

d.light to Bring Solar Power to 23,000 Refugee Households in Uganda d.light, a provider of household products and affordable financing for low-income households, will supply 10,000 subsidized solar home systems to refugees in Northern and Western Uganda, as part of a larger initiative to provide 23,000 systems to refugee communities in the country. This project is funded by a $3 million grant from the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) and the Energising Development (EnDev) program, supported by the German, Dutch, Norwegian, and Swiss governments. The initiative, which began in April and will last 12 months, operates on a results-based financing model, where d.light receives funding for each installed system. Gavala Douglas, d.light's Managing Director for Uganda, noted that the grant will help improve living conditions for refugees from South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and other countries in Ugandan camps. #solar #Uganda #refugees #dlight #cleanenergy #energyaccess #socialimpact #sustainabledevelopment #resultsbasedfinancing

1.5 million refugees, who live in #Uganda, boost the country’s #economy contributing up to US$220 annually (UNHCR). #Refugees in Uganda can have access to land for #farming, and they may also have the opportunity to rent additional land and establish their businesses. Refugee farmers, similar to local farms, generate #economic benefits by employing labour from surrounding households and getting supplies from nearby businesses. The majority of the food produced by refugees is consumed within their households or sold within the refugee communities. They pay taxes, generating revenue for the state. The case of Uganda is an example of the success of an open-door policy, that benefits everyone. From 2010 to 2014 #REI funded environmental projects in Uganda, that improved practices in modern farming. We see that having the right to work and provide for oneself is important for dignity. REI funds provide this #opportunity even when the country does not have an open-door policy. For example, REI support to the Karenni Social Development Centre in #Thailand gives youth the skills and knowledge to start working in the community, allowing them not only to #support themselves but also their families.
