Here are some common struggles that the majority may encounter: 👉Cultural Identity: Balancing the culture of their parent's homeland with the culture of their adopted country can lead to feelings of confusion or identity crisis. 👉Financial Strain: Immigrant families often face financial hardships, experiencing stress and anxiety related to economic instability, lack of access to resources, or pressure to succeed academically to help support their family financially. 👉Language Barrier: Accents may also apply to this. 👉Social Isolation: Feeling like an outsider or experiencing discrimination due to cultural differences or ethnicity. 👉Cultural Clashes: Differences in values, beliefs, and norms between the immigrant parents' culture and their adopted country's mainstream culture can lead to family conflicts. 👉Legal and Immigration Issues: Concerns about immigration status or fear of deportation can cast a shadow of uncertainty and instability over the lives of immigrant families. This National Immigrant Heritage Month, we recognize and honor the many contributions of immigrants in the United States. 💙 This month-long observance helps raise awareness and appreciation for the immigrant experience as we celebrate the pivotal role immigrants have played in shaping our country’s history, culture, economy, and society across many different fields. 💚 Additionally, it is a call to action to advocate for immigrant rights and fight discrimination. In the past few years, we have seen a rise in anti-immigrant sentiments. In order to ensure a more inclusive future for all, we must collectively address the issues we are facing. 💛 Let’s use this month to not only celebrate our heritage, but also build a stronger, brighter, and more welcoming nation. The American Dream is for everyone to feel safe, valued, and empowered to contribute their unique talents and culture. #NationalImmigrantHeritageMonth #ImmigrantHeritage #Immigrant #CelebrateImmigrants #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion

I'm glad to share with you our new paper on immigrant residential segregation, based on research in five Spanish neighbourhoods https://lnkd.in/d2Wk3GMV This research delved into the internal residential dynamics of immigrants in five Spanish working-class neighbourhoods, employing a territorial approach followed by qualitative analysis. Our investigation examines the role of ethnic prejudice and social class in initiating and perpetuating residential segregation among immigrant populations. Key Highlights: 👥 In Spanish working-class neighbourhoods, natives and immigrants cohabit the same spaces. 🏡 Natives typically occupy more advantageous positions within the residential hierarchy. 💡 Immigrant acceptance of inequality appears to mitigate levels of ethnic prejudice among natives. Our findings underscore a pronounced residential segmentation, with immigrants often relegated to non-adequate housing compared to their native counterparts. This division, characterized by native advantage and immigrant acceptance of inequality, appears to temper levels of ethnic hostility within these neighbourhoods. However, this social equilibrium may be fragile, particularly given the recent surge of populist, nativist, and extreme right-wing ideologies in Spain. It is imperative for local authorities to examine integration dynamics in popular neighbourhoods, offering insights into the future trajectory of immigrant coexistence within Spanish society. Let's share insights and foster dialogue on the nuances of immigrant housing integration in contemporary society. #Housing #ImmigrantIntegration #SocialCohesion #DiversityAndInclusion #Insights 📊📚

Immigrants face a constant journey for belonging and our founder, Gregory Maurice, was no different. After moving to the U.S. from Haiti as a young boy, he remembers having to "[navigate] through school and the initial years of my career, striving to be humble, allowing my work to echo my voice, while quietly grappling with the discomfort of not fully relating." According to a Pew Research Center survey from last year, a majority of employed U.S. adults (56%) agreed that focusing on increasing #DEI at work is a good thing, with 28% feeling indifferent. In that same survey, only 3 out of 10 employees said it is extremely or very important to them to work somewhere with a mix of employees of different races and ethnicities (32%). For those like us, first and second generation immigrants and other minorities or people of color, these numbers speak volumes to why embracing diversity is imperative for our success in the workplace. 💯 For us to feel belonging, diversity must be a cornerstone in corporate offices. The reality is that this is hard to come by for many of us. We built ZAKA to create a safe and vulnerable platform for immigrants to be developed, celebrated and seen. 🧡 This #DiversityMonth, we encourage each of you to amplify your immigrant stories and what diversity means to you. These values and experiences are what make you unique and valuable no matter what line of work you pursue. Know that you deserve to lead and create the career of your dreams! Re-post this with your #immigrantstory and we'll share them all month long. #zaka #immigrants #diversityandinclusion #workplaceinclusion #immigrantstories
