Peter Greer and Chris Horst’s book, Rooting for Rivals, has not only enriched the lives of many at Edify but also sparked a transformative journey for individuals across the globe. We deeply appreciate its profound impact and believe it will inspire and motivate you! Greer and Horst discuss the key paradigm shift of viewing the world through a lens of how we can work alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ rather than compete. They explain that with this mindset, we can live lives of generosity, openness, and trust with the people around us. The book focuses on three main points: 1. Shared resources and complementary strengths can amplify impact using real-world examples of successful collaborations. 2. Inspiring leaders to adopt a mindset of generosity and collaboration, ultimately fostering a culture where rival organizations become partners, using narratives and personal insights as examples. 3. Potential major challenges organizations might face while pursuing collaboration and actionable steps to overcome these hurdles. “We’ve entered a time when the Church is no longer associated with love and compassion, but judgment, condemnation, and infighting. We’re no longer known for the sacrifice or humility Jesus modeled but for hypothetically failing to look beyond ourselves and our issues. If we want this to change, we must focus on our unified mission above our organizational agendas.” (p.43) Godwin Fiagbor, VP of West Africa, shares how this has played out in Ghana, “We desire to see our partners across Ghana flourish—not only in business but also to be fully enveloped in what God is doing through Edify, to be transformed… When we don't see ourselves before the goal, we become collaborators instead of competitors.” Want to know more about Edify and the books we love? SOCIOCRATIC GOVERNANCE AND EVOLUTION The general conditions of our environments (as considered in Spiral dynamics) are deteriorating and becoming tense. As a result, driven by the forces of survival, positions involute and power is increasingly being exercised. And yet, living beings can only survive and evolve if they cooperate in equivalent flows, in search of equilibrium, and this should inspire us. Sociocratic governance, with its circular loops, implements these laws of cooperation and regulation. Today, it's more important than ever to learn how to model living things, and to anchor this learning very deeply within ourselves, at the heart of organizations and social, economic, political and cultural life. It's not complicated, you just need to be open to information and have the desire to learn through interaction. #sociocracy #governance #leadership #management #evolution #transformation #cooperation

Future leaders of Africa, do not embark on this journey unprepared—CONSUME deeply. The challenges we face on this continent are woven into a complex tapestry of historical, social, economic, spiritual, and religious contexts. Our mission is not one of incremental activism or mere achievement, but a profound, intentional, and rigorous transformation. This cannot be accomplished with superficial, quick-fix solutions or sporadic reading; it requires depth. We must reject the false dichotomy of entrepreneurship versus academia. While entrepreneurship is a pathway to economic freedom, academic depth is essential to avoid shallow solutions that celebrate small achievements while neglecting the deeply rooted, systemic issues at the core of our challenges. True revolution demands a comprehensive understanding of the foundations we aim to rebuild.

The Future if Youth Are Empowered: Empowering young people and giving them a spot in politics can transform African nations. The future of Africa can be bright if the youth are involved in decision-making and leadership roles. By empowering the youth, we can: 1. Drive Innovation: Young people bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that can drive economic growth and development. 2. Promote Peace and Stability: Youth involvement in politics can help address the root causes of conflict and promote peace and stability. 3. Create Opportunities: Empowering young people can create more opportunities for employment, education, and personal growth. 4. Strengthen Democracy: Involving youth in politics can strengthen democratic institutions and processes, ensuring a more inclusive and representative government. My Stand: As a young African passionate about peace and development, I believe it's time for a leadership transformation. We must advocate for leaders who are visionary, inclusive, transformational, ethical, and empathetic. Only then can we hope to create a future where every young person has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to the growth and stability of our continent. Let’s work together to support and promote leaders who truly represent the interests of Africa's youth. The future of our continent depends on it.

Charline Prazen Chikomo Future African leaders must indeed consume knowledge deeply to truly understand the layers of challenges we face. But I believe there’s a critical point we must address: how can we commit to this deep intellectual journey when there are pressing contemporary problems demanding immediate action? The balance between depth and urgency is delicate. We need academic rigor to uncover the systemic issues, but at the same time, we cannot neglect the entrepreneurial spirit that drives immediate solutions. The real challenge is how to intertwine both for meaningful and lasting transformation. What’s your view on how we can achieve this balance while staying focused on the larger mission?

Influence should create impact Wielding influence that is not directed towards solving problems that will create societal impact is a waste of opportunity. The way influence is deployed matters a lot in the grand scheme of things. Influential individual should display maturity in the way they wield their influence. So many influential figures who should be using their influence productively to solve problems by making the society a better place are most times only interested in self preservation. The worth of our respective influence capital is in the social impact we are able to create with it. For society to develop rapidly, all hands must be on deck and individuals that hold some level of influence should be willing to put their popularity behind an agenda that moves society forward and transforms life. Moving forward, self preservation should be replaced with societal impact. ------------------------------------------------ Isaac Nwanyanwu has been described as a fast-rising mindset and business coach to look out for in Africa.
