Did you know that Black business ownership is up by almost 30% on pre-pandemic levels, with Black women starting businesses at a higher rate than any other group? August is National Black Business Month! Tag some of your favorite Black owned business and/or their owners. 💼🌟🤝 #BlackBusinessMonth

In a world that often pits women against each other, focusing on competition rather than collaboration, I'd like to highlight the incredible power and strength that arises when women support and uplift one another. When black women choose to unite, celebrate, and advocate for each other's success, remarkable things can happen. This weekend I spent the afternoon as a silver sponsor for one of my Facebook community groups The Black Queens of Durham, who celebrated their 6th year anniversary and 10K members. As a sponsor I spoke about the importance of financial literacy and why it's important for every woman to be financially independent of the men in their lives. I also encouraged celebrating each other's achievements, offering encouragement during setbacks and fostering a positive mindset. Women supporting black women amplifies voices that have historically been marginalized and silenced. By lending a listening ear, creating safe spaces, and advocating for equal opportunities, women can help each other be heard and seen, especially in male-dominated fields and industries. If we continue the movement women can become unstoppable forces of change, challenging existing norms and opening doors for future generations. The power of black women supporting black women cannot be underestimated. By welcoming female solidarity, we can create a path towards a more equitable and inclusive society. Supporting one another fosters confidence, amplifies voices, and breaks down barriers while creating a network of resilience, strength, and success. Together, let us celebrate, empower, and uplift each other as we continue to shape a future where women supporting women is the norm, not the exception. As #Talent leaders and allies, this #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re taking time to educate ourselves on the role of Black Women in History to learn how we can further support Black Women in the workplace. AMS is hosting a series of events to advance learning and inclusivity, including educational sessions, panel discussions, and interactive activities. The aim of these sessions with internal and external experts and activists is to deepen our understanding and celebrate the incredible contributions of #BlackWomen to literature, music, fashion, sport, business, politics, academia, social and health care, and more. #BlackHistoryMonthUK2023 #BlackHistoryUK #WEMATTER

I remember walking into that boardroom, feeling the weight of being the only Black woman. It's a reality that shouldn't need pointing out, but there I was, unmistakably different. It brings to mind Merline Saintil's words, "Most of my life, I was the only one. Often the first one." A sentiment that, sadly, many of us can nod along to, but it also shines a light on those who've dared to tread where few have before. Not long ago, I was deeply moved by "OnBoard," a film by Merline Saintil, Shannon Nash, Deborah Riley Draper and Lacy Barnes. It's not just a film; it's a journey. A journey of Black women in corporate spaces, from Patricia Roberts Harris in 1971 to our present day. Their stories, their challenges, their triumphs. But what followed the film was equally impactful. A panel discussion with Saintil and Nash, where they shared wisdom that wasn't just about career growth, but about finding your tribe: - Find Your Tribe: Those who amplify your mission and share your vision. - Understand the Business: Go beyond your comfort zone. Know what fuels your company, adds value for your clients, and drives the bottom line. - Live in Beta: Every day is a chance to innovate, to grow, to challenge yourself. - Broaden Your Horizons: Engage, connect, and build relationships that go beyond the professional. - Consistency is Key: Show up, every single day, no matter the challenges. To every young Black woman stepping into tech or any other field, know this: You're part of a lineage. Pioneers like Saintil and Nash have been there, and they're making sure you're not the last. They're not just leading the way; they're building a community. And it's this sense of community, of finding a new tribe, that fuels my passion and commitment to diversifying spaces, one boardroom at a time.
