Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the aviation industry have faced a staggering loss of over Rs. 450 billion in the last 4.5 years, mainly due to European travel restrictions. However, with the recent restoration of European routes and the lifting of the flight suspension by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), PIA's privatization efforts are gaining momentum. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to add eight new aircraft to its fleet in 2025, as announced by PIA CEO Khurram Mushtaq during a National Assembly Standing Committee on Aviation meeting. The new wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft will be deployed on long-haul routes. Additionally, the ban on PIA’s flights to Europe has been lifted after four years, with flights to Paris resuming on January 10, 2025, with two weekly services. Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest aviation group, has partnered with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to launch Air Congo, according to Yahoo Lifestyle. The DRC government holds a 51% stake, while Ethiopian Airlines owns 49% and manages operations. Air Congo has begun domestic flights using two Boeing 737-800s, supported by Ethiopian Airlines through aircraft leases, technical assistance, and staff training.
