Volume of video poses big problem for operators MNOs are generally most concerned with the air interface between their RAN and their customers’ devices. They tend not to pay much attention to the fixed-line front haul infrastructure that pipes data to the RAN. But in the 5G era, with a growing amount of traffic that needs to be backhauled from user devices at the edge, the burden of video traffic is becoming a pain point. Thankfully, there was no shortage of video specialists in Barcelona at MWC, but again, nomenclature has caused a headache. Despite having ‘5G’ in the name, 5G Broadcast is essentially a rebadged LTE Broadcast (eMBMS), which itself was an ‘evolved’ version of the MBMS that was available (but essentially unused) in 3G. The specification was finalized in Release 16, back in 2020. #5G #RAN #data #video

Below is example concept of D2X RAN slicing with OFDMA capability serving 10 Use Cases with Virtual Slices of D2X Virtual Frame each slice is tailored for Application requirements. https://lnkd.in/ebRvyaWa OFDMA improves spectrum efficiency using larger Bandwidths such as 24 MHz shown. This technology can be used in the Broadcast and IMT bands. The one-to-many nature of D2X results in much less system complexity than 5G NR and is designed to interwork as Non-3GPP Broadcast RAT at RAN layer 2.
