How do Dutch cities differ from others when it comes to architecture and modern innovation? I highly admire the incredible well planned, innovative well thought and very high quality that goes behind Dutch city infrastructure. Netherlands and Amsterdam especially has some of the most crazy looking modern new buildings that look incredible from architecture perspective. In this incredible well made video, check the detailed thought and planning for a newly constructed neighborhood (Houthavens) which is one of the most expensive neighborhoods very close to Amsterdam city center (2kms away on west) Amsterdam is one of the most hot housing markets in Europe now, with next to impossible to find an affordable living space in a short time. It also happens that I happened to live on a big barge 60 meter boat of a Dutch friend parked in the waters here just next to the big tall [--] shaped building (mid left) here a few years ago for a couple of weeks when the first phase had just finished. I kayaked solo next to this tall building in my friend's kayak in these waters then admiring its presence. My first ever kayaking. I had no idea of this incredible plan behind this new neighborhood then. #city #infrastructure #urban #municipality #amsterdam

📍 Shaping The Hague’s future: Atenor’s contribution to the Central Innovation District During the CID Day, the city of The Hague shared its vision for the Central Innovation District (CID). With plans for over 20,000 new homes and 25,000 jobs, along cultural, educational, hospitality, and sports facilities, the CID is set to become a vibrant hub for innovation and community life. Atenor Netherlands, together with Ten Brinke and Myb, is developing Verheeskade I & II which will contribute to the transformative vision of the city. The project will deliver 56,800 m² of residential space—including apartments and student housing—11,000 m² of commercial space and 1,750 m² of green roofs. These mixed-use developments aim to foster a dynamic and inclusive neighborhood that enhances quality of life, offering a balanced blend of living, working, and leisure opportunities. I was on the edge of my seat during the presentation of Maria Vassilakou on the strategy to create a livable and attractive city of Vienna. My main take-aways were: >Facilitating interaction and community-building as a design principle. So, not creating a building or a few houses and then have someone else think of the public space and again someone else creating facilities and someone else creating community. But integrate disciplines from this ONE starting point. That is right up my alley 😄. >With land and financial policies facilitate affordable and high quality housing. I love Vienna's policy on affordable housing and the result of having all incomes spread throughout the city. Diversity leads to resilience! >You need a longgggg breath. This result in Vienna took decades of relatively consistent strategy. And wooow, how that pays off. Being rated the most liveable city multiple times. Inspiring and envidiable!

Soon to become reality: The Dutch Mountains in Eindhoven will be the largest wooden-hybrid building in the world, with a height of 133 meters and floor space of over 65,000 m² to accommodate homes, offices, a hotel and conference centre. With the support of Eindhoven Councilor Stijn Steenbakkers and project consortium comprising Urban Xchange, Studio Marco Vermeulen, and Built by Nature Frontrunners BLOC bv and Lingotto, this ambitious development around Eindhoven Central Station is seen as crucial for the redevelopment of the Brainport region. In this announcement: https://lnkd.in/gJ_qhk-h the City of Eindhoven describes the carbon impact from deploying biobased materials: "Solid wood (Cross Laminated Timber/CLT) from sustainably managed forests is used. This results in 70% less CO2 emissions compared to traditional construction. By using approximately 9,500 m³ of wood, no less than 8,000 tons of CO2 are also permanently stored. The Dutch Mountains is therefore an example project for high-rise buildings in 'biobased materials'. Warsaw’s success in urban regeneration reveals a broader trend: cities worldwide are discovering that investing in historical restorations can yield significant returns, not just economically but also in terms of community pride. Interestingly, a study by the National Trust for Historic Preservation found that for every $1 million invested in historic preservation, approximately 30 jobs are created.
