Blog #16-1 I'd like to introduce an article written by a long-term German guest about homestays in Japan. 10 reasons why homestay is the best decision for life in Japan Not sure if a homestay (host family) is right for you? I asked myself this question when I decided to go to Japan on a working holiday. I'm sure there are many people who think this way. That's why I wanted to clarify the answer to this question for those people. In this article, I would like to introduce my impressions based on my homestay experience at Hiroko, the owner of Homing, and the benefits of homestay. ① Opportunity to experience life and culture with Japanese people One of my purposes in Japan was to understand more about the Japanese people and what life is like in Japan. Before doing a homestay, I stayed in a shared house where many foreigners lived. I didn't have many opportunities to interact with Japanese people there, so even though I came to Japan, I didn't feel like I was living in Japan. It wasn't until I lived with a host family that I was able to understand more about Japan and its culture. This is because I get to interact with Japanese families every day. ②Outing with host family My host family loved to travel, so we went to many different places together. My host mother always tried to make my stay unforgettable. ③Use your time effectively Since I didn't have to do household chores such as cooking and laundry (of course I would help out), I was able to use my limited time in Japan effectively. ④Many new encounters I met many new people through my host family. I was able to meet friends of my host family, people who live with other host families like me, and people I meet at events held by my host. Thanks to my host family, I was able to make many new friends in Japan. ⑤Comfortable Japanese house My homestay house was larger than a typical Japanese house, with plenty of room for up to three guests, and was very comfortable. My room was a Japanese-style room with tatami mats and shoji screens. There was also a kotatsu in a corner of the dining room, and we ate there in the winter. July 30, 2024 Enjoying The Sightseeing Of Your Life (Part 1) In life, we experience different types of situations, some good and some tough. There is a constant movement in our lives and the situations and experiences that come our way. Throughout this journey of life, it is important to remember that we have a choice – a choice to manage difficult situations by being in an inner mental position of fear or love. Facing a particular situation with love means that we are choosing compassion as our response emotion. Also, we are aware of the fact that it is a temporary situation and we will not let the situation define us and influence our emotions negatively. In many different ways, we can compare a way of facing difficult times in life to experiencing sightseeing as a tourist, who is only collecting experiences of life for a while, and then will leave for home. Let’s explore this comparison through this message: While traveling, we often let our tour guide put together the itinerary for us and decide on what to see or how much time to spend in one place. We do so, because someone else can make the planning decisions, and as a result, make things simpler for us and allow us to sit back and enjoy our journey. Similarly in life, we should train ourselves in a way that whatever life offers us, we can accept it and turn it into a beautiful possibility to succeed. We should remember that no situation in life is unsolvable, and that it is constantly evolving. Just like a traveler on a tourist destination, we can make our little choices in our thoughts, words and actions. Every choice will have a result, which we must learn to accept joyfully. (To be continued tomorrow …)

6 things that happened when i moved to the hostel- it's been 6 months since I left home & been living in a hostel. (I keep coming back home on occasions though) in the hostel, your room, your bed & your cupboard is the only world you have. considering I'm the only youngest in the hostel, i do not even have a peer. imagine being stuck there all day. the thought is haunting right? every weekend, i find reasons to stay back home. but cannot although, i'm out most of the time but I do miss home & the warmth of being among my family. but stepping out of my comfort zone was an important decision I had to make: here are the 6 things that happened after I moved out: ✔️ I traveled alone - build confidence to explore new routes alone ✔️ met roomies (all 20+) - helped me get adapted & I fit in very well among them despite the age difference ✔️ skip meals - mismatching of times led to skipping meals: bad health - understood the 'ghar ke khaane' ki value ✔️ got in the wrong buses / metros - learnt to stay active - got used to traveling - learnt to protect myself + stay safe ✔️ lost routes 6-7 times - helped me understand the areas - gained me the confidence - made me ready / confident to deal with situations ✔️ forced to talk to people - got exposed to diverse people - got out of my bubble - learnt empathy - made friends from all backgrounds - learnt to understand different povs I was lucky enough to found very nice people around me in the hostel the earlier you move out on your own, the easier it is to get adapted to the outer world (although it has its own disadvantages) what do you think? Gauri M. at your service :)
