#gamedevcommunity - curious to know your thoughts if you're open to sharing: "We need this Engineer to have Unreal experience." I understand and respect this mandatory requirement. Hiring Managers want to bring someone on to their team who can hit the ground running with no ramp-up. However, is there an argument to be made here? Any time I speak with a programmer who has made a successful transition from Unity or a proprietary game engine over to UE, I try to ask them the same question: "how challenging was that transition from you?" It's a big question that gets a different response each time depending on the programmer's discipline and the actual purpose of the proprietary engine they've worked in, but the insight so many devs share lean towards a few points: Certain proprietary engines can require much longer of a ramp-up verses Unreal, which can be more intuitive / user-friendly. Is swapping C# for C++ the solve? No. It's more complex than that. Is moving from Unity to Unreal a tremendous mountain to climb? For most, it doesn't seem so. Does Unreal have limitations of it's own? Yes, but it depends on the nature of your project. Overall, most engineers who've made the transition, whether self-taught or through their studio, claim the ramp-up has taken anywhere from several weeks to a few months. Should there be flexibility to the "must have UE" requirement? #gamedevelopment #engineers #gamedeveloper

Day 15 of making a post every day until I get a job as a Software Engineer Been diving deeper into Unity lately. Game dev is way more than just making cool stuff , it’s a crash course in problem-solving, coding logic, and optimization. All things that tie back into software engineering. Unity’s taught me to think differently about coding, especially when it comes to efficiency and performance. Still grinding, still applying, and still learning every day. Excited to bring all this game dev knowledge to a software engineering team soon! #GameDev #Unity #SoftwareEngineering #JobSearch #TechJourney #DevLife
