Today, we're thrilled to share a groundbreaking achievement in sustainable maritime technology: the launch of the #Methatug at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges! 🎉 The Methatug is the world's first methanol-powered tugboat! 💚 This tug, powered by methanol engines from Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC), is part of a greening program for the port’s fleet and is a significant step in the transition to a climate-neutral port by 2050. The launch of Ane Mærsk, the world's first large methanol-enabled container vessel, marks a pivotal moment in sustainable shipping. Named after Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla, this vessel is at the forefront of A.P. Moller - Maersk's initiative to lower emissions in the logistics industry. With its innovative design, including the bridge and accommodation at the front for fuel efficiency, Ane Mærsk is setting new standards for eco-friendly transport. As it prepares to service the AE7 string between Asia and Europe, Ane Mærsk represents a significant leap towards achieving 65-95% life cycle GHG reductions with its use of green fuels. Neste, OK Slurink (Catom) and Scylla AG have partnered to supply Neste MY Renewable Diesel for Scylla’s river cruises in Europe. The collaboration marks a step towards more sustainable practices in inland shipping, especially the river cruise sector. OK Slurink will supply Scylla's 40 ships with Neste MY Renewable Diesel, reducing GHG emissions by up to 90% compared to fossil diesel. Pioneering Sustainable Aviation with Fjord PtX: A technical review ✈ ⚙   In the quest for eco-friendly aviation solutions, Fjord PtX emerges as a beacon of innovation, ready to make great advances in the landscape of air travel. At the heart of this endeavor lies the Power-to-X facility, strategically positioned in Norbis Park, Denmark. Partnering with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Nordværk and Aalborg Forsyning are engineering a paradigm shift towards sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production 🌿 The cornerstone of Fjord PtX is its capability to convert electricity into a versatile energy carrier, enabling the production of SAF from renewable sources. Through a meticulously orchestrated process, electrical power drives electrolysis, splitting water into hydrogen, which is then synthesized with captured CO2 to form sustainable aviation fuel. Anticipated to yield up to 110 million liters annually, the facility stands as a testament to technological prowess and environmental stewardship. Aalborg Forsyning plays a pivotal role, providing critical infrastructure and logistical support. Leveraging their expertise in water management, the multi-utility operation ensures the sustainable provision of water resources for the PtX facility. Whether through rainwater harvesting, or treated wastewater utilization, the solutions are designed to minimize environmental footprint while maximizing operational efficiency 👣 As the participants navigate through the approval process, slated for commencement in 2025 pending regulatory clearance. The significance of Fjord PtX transcends regional boundaries, symbolizing a global shift towards carbon-neutral air travel. Moller - Maersk on the innovative, ME-LGIM engine platform, already on the first of its #methanol #newbuilds, speaks volumes of MAN Energy Solutions. Were you aware though, that #methanol, a colourless🔎, odourless👃🏻, liquid fuel🥛at ambient temperature, also allows for very efficient #retrofits?🤔💰 MAN Energy Solutions’ engine designs currently power well over 20,000 vessels globally. Out of this ‘fleet’, 3,500 are electronically controlled⚡️ and therefore represent suitable candidates for the potential #conversion to operate on alternative fuels, including methanol.
