Today, our offices are closed to commemorate #Juneteenth. In recognition of this important date, the Agios Association of Black Professionals ERG group hosted a two-part virtual webinar to guide our team through different scenarios related to conversations around race and social justice. By demonstrating how “everyday” listening differs from mindful listening, we're continuously working toward fostering a more inclusive environment for all. #FreedomDay

🌍 Have you ever watched the world through the eyes of a child who's judged before he even speaks? This weekend, my 15-year-old son faced a reality many prefer to ignore. 🤔 As I listened to my husband Mark recount a troubling incident from their visit to a shopping mall in Glasgow, the weight of responsibility lay heavy on my heart. 🛍️💔 In different shops, staff looked at our 15-year-old with unspoken yet blatant scrutiny, echoing my own experiences even in our so-called diverse city of Birmingham. 🏙️. You see, i’ve experienced going into shops where security has followed me from the moment of walking in. “But when I joined him inside the shop,” Mark continued, “it was like a switch flipped. Suddenly, they were all smiles, asking if we needed help.” Our son noticed the disapproving looks too. "Dad, do they look at me weird because I'm Dual heritage, Black?" he asked. This conversation reignited a familiar fire in me. It's not just about our son; it's about all children facing these judgments every day. As an advocate for diversity and the empowerment of black children, I feel the urgency of our work. These moments are reflections of a larger societal issue. 🌟 ======================= Hello! 👋 I'm Ade Larigo. I specialise in helping agencies form diverse, dynamic panels (people who help approve families for adoption and fostering) to attract and retain committed adopters and foster carers, to care for Black children and young people. 🚀 If you're curious about how I can assist, drop me a DM! 💌 Don't forget to follow 👉🏽 #AdeAspires, turn on notifications 🔔, and connect for more content like this. 🤍💛💙 #AgencyConnection #AdoptionAndFosteringPanels #DEI #DiversityMatters #PositiveIdentity How can we create a more understanding and diverse world for our children ? The H3AL Network is a Black Advocacy group that takes an intersectional approach to collective healing. H3AL (Highlighting Equality & Equity through Education, Advocacy & Love) is a grassroots organization based in northwest New Jersey. Our mission is to empower the Black community and provide resources to foster positive community outcomes and growth. We are committed to not being frozen into inaction by the daunting task of addressing systematic oppression, but to fluid active healing. Firstly, by acknowledging racism and the damage it does. By educating ourselves through the works and words of those whose shoulders we stand on, we will create a map where there isn’t one, in service to the creation of community healing. We will provide resources to learn and empower ourselves and others with knowledge. Through the vehicle of understanding our shared history through education, and uplifting the lived experiences of Black people, we can be in service of mainstreaming this information so that problems in marginalized communities can be faced and solved. The story of racism is not an accusation against the person listening, but a means of communication to acknowledge the wounds and identify the structures we’re all a part of. This active listening works in service of understanding one another so that we can heal and deconstruct the society’s dominant narrative which too often intentionally omits the struggles of marginalized communities, robbing the whole of its collective health. By recognizing that antiracist work requires continuous deep self looking and ongoing commitment, H3AL will serve to facilitate this collective work by providing the tools, information, conversations and a wider, safer container for the sharing of Black-American culture. For more info and to join the network check us out on Instagram and Facebook H3AL #CommunitySupport #CommunityStrong #NeighborsMatter #MakingADifference #CommunityAction #onenorwescap #norwescap #H3ALnetwork
