What you need to know about biostatisticians... The role of a biostatistician in the field of clinical research is one of essential importance, yet its responsibilities often remain blurry for many. A biostatistician is deeply involved in the design and result interpretation of clinical trials, providing insights that guide the direction and conclusion of the research. Their work begins from the planning phase of a trial, where they play an advisory role, helping to shape the study design and determine sample size. They are also responsible in interpreting trial results, providing crucial analysis and insights to the team. One of the challenges that biostatisticians face is in communicating complex statistical concepts to the wider research team. Their ability to translate the broader concepts and parameters involved in the study design and evaluation can enhance the effectiveness of the team, allowing for early problem identification and better solutions. The role of the biostatistician is not restricted to the lab or research team. They are also educators, helping to demystify the statistical aspect of clinical research for a wider audience. They contribute to the overall understanding and appreciation of clinical research, by explaining the relevance and importance of various statistical concepts. A biostatistician’s work is not just about numbers and formulas. It’s about making a meaningful impact on the direction and outcome of clinical research, and ultimately, contributing to the advancement of science and medicine. How do you think improving communication skills can enhance the role of a biostatistician? #biostatistics #clinicalresearch #communication

MSc Microbiology Student | Exploring Innovations in Microbial Science | Homi Bhabha Institute of Science
🌟 Inspiring Alumni Meet at The Institute of Science 🌟 Today, I had the privilege of attending an alumni meet organized by our esteemed Rajendra Choure Sir, where we were graced by Adil Sir, an expert in Clinical Research Oncology working for a leading US-based company. His journey, which began humbly with swab collection, has been nothing short of remarkable, showing us the true value of perseverance and continuous learning. Adil Sir shared invaluable insights on how to thrive in the clinical research field: 💼 Don't chase the salary, chase the learning – Early in your career, prioritize knowledge and skills over monetary gains. 🔬 Ground-level knowledge is everything – Whether it's swab collection or advanced research, never underestimate the value of hands-on experience. 🚀 Be proactive – Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you; initiate and explore new projects, even at the entry level. 🧠 Critical thinking is the key – In clinical research, as well as in microbiology, it’s important to think beyond protocols. Be smart, not just a task-oriented technician. 🌍 Understanding the real world – Clinical research isn't just about labs and theories; it’s about addressing real-world medical challenges, improving patient outcomes, and making a global impact. He also opened our eyes to the vast opportunities in microbiology and clinical research, from roles in data management, trial design, regulatory affairs, to oncology and public health. Adil Sir reminded us that it's not enough to just follow instructions; we must understand the why behind every action, bringing innovation and fresh thinking into every task. I walked away feeling empowered, understanding that thinking critically and acting strategically are essential skills, no matter the field. A huge thanks to Adil Sir for sharing your journey and inspiring us to not just look at the “next job,” but to build careers that make a difference. 🌱🔬 #AlumniMeet #ClinicalResearch #Oncology #Microbiology #CriticalThinking #GrowthMindset #Innovation #ScienceLeadership #HealthcareTransformation Dr. Homi Bhabha State University, Mumbai
