I'll say this again: a profitable business doesn't necessarily equal positive #cashflow. You can have a profitable quarter on paper, but if you are mismanaging cash you could still have a problem. What does this look like? ❌ Not invoicing as soon and as often as you can. ❌ Not forecasting expected revenue, expenses, and distributions. ❌ Not knowing what invoices are overdue or following up on them. ❌ Not knowing if you can afford to make a new hire and hiring anyway. So close your books, review your financial statements, update your forecasts, and manage your cash accordingly. This is how you protect your business' financial health. #business #finance

3 Questions to Ask Corporate Finance Advisers (Pre-Appointment!) 1. What’s their Sweet Spot? All advisors have specialisms, whether that’s supporting a specific business size, type of owner or sector. A lack of specialism can impact buyer reach and the "edge" in negotiations, if you're at the smaller end of their deal range you may struggle to get airtime with star dealmakers. 2. How well do they know Buyers? Do they rely on networks, maintain dialogue with buyers or run outreach case by case? Ask how buyer relationships developed in recently completed deals. 3. Can they back-up value ranges quoted? Profit multiple ranges drive the sales and marketing process, and the fees, "over performance" is incentivised. Can your adviser referencing multiples from specific (and recent!) transactions? You are looking for direct comparisons between your strategy and the reference transaction. I found this out the painful way: 🗣️ People who join you on price, leave you on price. When I started my firm I would: 1. Ask prospects for their last set of accounts 2. Scroll to the back to see how much they were currently paying 3. Pitch my fee slightly under 🤷 And it worked. I signed clients. The problem is - other accountants did the same thing. So like clockwork, every year or two, they would leave for another accountant. People who join you on price; leave you on price. Good clients are not price sensitive - they’re value sensitive.
