📢Important Update for General Practices! The The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has announced a vital update to the RACGP Standards for general practices (5th edition). The updated standard, GP2.2►E, now includes revised guidelines for managing high-risk results identified outside of normal operating hours. Key changes include that you must: • have a documented policy that outlines the process for your practice’s management for high-risk results identified outside of normal opening hours • give diagnostic services the contact details of the practitioner who ordered the investigation or a delegated practitioner or after-hours service. This change aims to ensure patients are promptly informed of critical results at any time while considering the logistical challenges faced by GPs. Award-winning GP | Helping doctors confidently pass the MRCGP SCA and step into their careers as independent & thriving GPs
Mastering the Art of Questioning in the MRCGP SCA Exam Imagine you're deep into a consultation during your MRCGP SCA exam. Each question you ask is a step closer to unlocking the patient's story, a crucial puzzle piece. This post delves into the art of questioning, a skill that could be your secret weapon in these high-stakes simulations. Curiosity isn't just a trait but a strength. Roger Neighbour, esteemed former RCGP examiner, often speaks about the power of curiosity. Picture yourself asking, "What's been triggering your symptoms?" with genuine interest. It's questions like these that not only illuminate your diagnostic path but also build a foundation of trust with your patient. But it's not just what you ask; it's when you ask. Timing your questions effectively can transform the flow of your consultation, ensuring you're not just hearing, but truly listening to your patient's concerns. Then there's the balance of open versus closed questions. Starting with open-ended questions invites your patient to tell their story, giving you a fuller picture of their experience. Remember, it's not about the quantity of questions, but the quality. Each question should serve to deepen your understanding of the patient's experience, helping you to provide care that's as personalised as it is proficient. Share your thoughts or strategies on effective questioning in the comments. Let's learn from each other and excel together. #MRCGP #SCAExam #SCAtips

June NBRC Ambassador Update: If you know me, you know that I am always eager to learn more. One of my favorite ways to challenge my RT is with the National Board for Respiratory Care - NBRC Credential Maintenance Program (CMP). At my pace, in a non-threatening environment, earning CRCEs for my state license. While practitioners are not required to take these assessments, I highly encourage you to do so for those credentials earned after 2002. It's a fantastic way to showcase your expertise and commitment to excellence in respiratory care. As the field adapts, the questions reflect changes in current practice. Test your knowledge and see how you measure up! #nbrcambassador #continuouslearning #TestYourKnowledge #RespiratoryTherapist
