Calves definitions according NASEM 2021 Definition of calves base on NASEM 2021: For nutrient requirement estimations, cattle less than 18% of mature body weight are considered calves. Example for Holstein: For Holstein cattle, which have an expected mature weight of 700 kg: 18% of 700 kg = 126 kg Transition to Heifer Status: Cattle weighing more than 18% of their mature body weight are considered heifers.
