Can we think of agriculture without biodiversity ? The answer is NO. Biodiversity is the basis of agriculture. Modern day agriculture is one of reasons for the biodiversity loss. A resilient and sustainable agriculture relies on thriving, biodiversity-friendly farming. What steps and measures can support this? Some thoughts to share. https://lnkd.in/gu5hESs7

✨️Does sustainable agriculture promote biodiversity and yield? 🚨Spoiler alert: Yes! In our latest manuscript we synthesized thousands of studies and found that sustainable agriculture increases biodiversity without compromising agricultural production. ⛏️More specifically, we examined grazing pause, diversification, organic farming, reduced resource addition and lower intensity in agroforestry systems, grasslands and croplands. 💻From a methodological point of view, this is a quantitative synthesis of meta-analyses, aka a second-order meta-analysis, aka a meta-meta-analysis. It was the first time I was using this method and it was fun! 📝Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/gM3pgZCf #grassland #cropland #winwin #naturebasedsolutions #cocoa #vineyards #biomass #biodiversity #speciesrichnes #shannon

"Did you know that insects are the unsung heroes of farming?" They’re essential for healthy crops and a sustainable future! From pollinating crops to keeping pests in check, these little heroes are essential for sustainable agriculture! This article, published on the Wikifarmer website, is written by Chandish Ballal, a former Director at ICAR-NBAIR, and edited by Dr. Nagraani Mahaajan, the Publication Director at ATPBR in Maharashtra, India. It explores how important insects are for sustainable farming, explaining how these tiny creatures help with pollination, control pests naturally, and keep our soil healthy—everything we need for strong crops and thriving ecosystems. Unfortunately, many insect populations are declining because of habitat loss and climate change. This decline is a major concern for agriculture and the environment, which is why farmers and communities must take action to protect these valuable allies. The good news is that there are easy ways to help. You can create habitats for beneficial insects and use eco-friendly pest control methods. By taking these actions, we can support sustainable farming that benefits everyone. Leave a comment below with your thoughts. Read the complete article by clicking the link. In my latest post I explore the impacts of industrial agriculture on the environment. Researching this topic has been disconcerting. In an effort to increase yields and reduce costs, these farming practices gradually erode soil health, strain water resources, and displace native wildlife. I share what these hidden impacts mean for all of us, and why exposing them matters. #IndustrialAgriculture #EcologicalCosts #SoilHealth #WaterQuality #BiodiversityLoss #SustainableAgriculture #FoodSystems #AnimalWelfare #Pollinators #ClimateImpacts https://lnkd.in/gtUjRRT5
