The technology behind Automated Box Opening We have all opened boxes: a few cuts here, a rip there, and in seconds, it's done. So, what’s the big deal? Multiply that simple operation by ten thousand in daily warehouse operation. Multiply that further by thousands in variations of box construction, sealing methods, and wall thickness, and if that's not enough, add the random levels of distortions and damages that occur with regular handling and shipping. A corrugated shipping box is a complex arrangement of polyconic surfaces. What appears to be flat surfaces that can be described by length, width, and height can produce cut lines that are 10mm in error. It only takes 0.25mm of error to damage the box's contents. The unprecedented 3D precision required for a vast range of box sizes sets box opening apart from any other application in warehouse automation. ABOT (Automated Box Opening Technology) generates thousands of 3D points for every box processed. Point clouds from multiple LiDAR units at varying heights and angles are combined to obtain unusually detailed metrology, from which algorithms determine the optimum cut line among rounded corners, bulging, or crushed tops and sides.

I would like to introduce the new innovation of the PONTEC CNC multifunction bridge. It is designed with interchangeable pneumatic tools prepared in a linear magazine. This solution is often used in automated workplaces where the robot arm changes the working tools.
