Day 1 of Navratri: Shailputri - The Embodiment of Courage and Will Power
For those unfamiliar with it, Navratri is one of India’s most vibrant festivals, celebrated over nine nights to honor the different forms of the divine feminine energy, Devi Durga. Each day is dedicated to a different avatar of the goddess, symbolizing different virtues and lessons that resonate deeply with life’s journey. It's a time of devotion, dance, fasting, and the celebration of womanhood.
On Day 1, we honor Goddess Shailputri, a symbol of #Courage and
#WillPower. Her energy represents the strength required to confront challenges head-on and the willpower to transform obstacles into #opportunities.
In the modern world, these traits are seen in the stories of real-life heroines like Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, who turned adversity into opportunity when she founded Biocon in a male-dominated field. Her resilience, despite the odds, echoes the essence of Shailputri. Another perfect embodiment of willpower is #MaryKom, whose rise from a small village to becoming a global boxing icon reminds us that nothing is impossible with #determination, #dedication and #devotion.
As we celebrate Shailputri today, let’s reflect on how we can embody courage in our personal and professional lives.
What #challenges have you overcome in your journey? How did you harness your #willpower to push through?
Let’s celebrate the #Shailputri within us all and share our stories to inspire each other.

Sawan Somwar Vrat for 2024 begins on July 22 in North India and August 5 in South India, with fasting on Mondays until August 19 and September 2, respectively. Devotees honor Lord Shiva with early morning baths, clean clothes, and offerings of milk, water, and bel leaves at Shiva temples. Fasting includes avoiding grains, pulses, and non-veg, with light foods like fruits and milk allowed. Key practices include chanting mantras like "Om Namah Shivaya" and performing evening puja. Observing this vrat is believed to bring peace and prosperity.
