According to the government's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) South African farmers are expected to harvest 19.3% less maize in the 2023/24 season compared to the previous year. Venturing into farming various crops is one way in which farmers can guard against the risk faced by the climatic conditions caused by El Niño. Crop rotation is decided by the farming region and area. Wheat, canola, barley, and sunflower are alternative crops to rotate with maize. #soilhealth #farming

Do you know what is MSP for farmers. Basically MSP is Minimum Support Price at which crops of farmers should be sold. For eg: There is Crop A and the MSP of crop A fixed by government is Rs 100/tonne. Now Farmers go in open market and the market price is Rs 75/tonne which is low compared to MSP. So now MSP helps farmers to sell their crops to government at Rs 100/tonne so that their basic costs and margin are covered.
