Tennis Serve like a Pro Tennis serve is a complex stroke to master. It requires the coordination of legs, arms and joint movements to transfer force from the ground up into the racket head. It also requires good hand-eye coordination and precise sense of timing. It has five steps: #1 Stance: Stand at the baseline. Front foot points toward the right net post, if you are right-handed. Back foot is parallel to the baseline. #2 Grip: Proper tennis serve grip to hold the racket is continental grip. #3 Toss: Hold the ball with your fingertips and keep your wrist neutral. #4 Hitting: While the ball is moving up, drop the racket behind you. When the ball is about to drop down, lift your body few inches above the ground while hitting the ball. #5 Follow-through: After hitting the ball, finish the serve on the left side of the body, if you are right-handed. I am a recreational tennis player. I started playing tennis just three months ago. Now I try to serve like a pro, even though it is not perfect. Watch my tennis serve in action!
