This month, AHBL attended PenMet Parks’ first public workshop to help envision the Peninsula Gardens Master Plan. Community members voted for their most desired park amenities, with pickleball being the most popular choice. AHBL’s attendees, Sarah Singleton Schroedel and Craig Skipton, are determined to reflect the community’s wants and needs in their work. #AHBL #AHBLLife #GigHarbor #Pickleball #Community Read more here: https://zurl.co/M7m0

Designer and Builder of custom play features and natural settings in New England - and prosthetic nose fabrication extraordinaire!
Commercial or Nature-based Playground Cost? "Compared to the cost of modern playground equipment the natural playground is a minimal investment with a lot of return". - As quoted from the attached article. Is this based on not wanting to invest in outdoor play or possibly some evidence that this may actually be true? I suppose that if they are planning on stumps and pole forts the cost will be far less but do they really believe for one second that kids and parents will frequent the playground? In whatever form it takes, I think this is a poor argument for promoting natural playgrounds and it makes all the legitimate reasons farcical. If one could even define what form a natural playground is identified by -just maybe, we could attach some numbers to this. My personal view is that a natural playground addresses landscape and play features on a more even ratio which inevitably drives up costs versus plopping equipment on a levelled fall zone. In addition, Natural playgrounds are very custom oriented and generally require more onsite labor which, in the case of a public project, will drive costs up enormously due to union-competitive wages. Nature-based playgrounds cannot financially compete with factory born playgrounds. They're a whole different beast. In time, as best practices and more companies get involved, costs will likely reduce but comparing and making equivalencies to commercial playgrounds is a misrepresentation of the effort to bring a modicum of nature back into kids lives. #naturalplayground #playgrounddesign #outdoorplay #playgroundconstruction #playgroundinstallation #playgrounds #playscape #naturalplay #customplayground #playvine #Murrysville #Murrysvillecommunitypark

🏡 It's More Than a Birdhouse🏡 🗓 Why have multiple groups contribute to one project? Because it's not just about the birdhouses; it's about the journey and the sense of togetherness it brings. When diverse groups work together, they: 👫 Foster Community Bonds: It strengthens the sense of community as residents collaborate and get to know each other better. 🦖 Celebrate Diversity: Each group brings unique skills and perspectives, making the project richer and more interesting. 🏆 Achieve More: Multiple hands make lighter work, and the end result is often more impressive when many talents combine. 😍 Promote Inclusivity: It encourages participation from all residents, no matter their interests or abilities. So here is how you can turn ONE PROJECT into 5 separate groups to add to your calendar and to include more residents: 🎨 Art Club: Why not ask your Art or Craft Groups to sketch out their vision of the ultimate birdhouse? It's a creative exercise that sparks imagination. 🛒 Shopping Trip: Take your resident shopaholics on a bus trip to Home Depot to pick up the supply list. Shopping with a purpose can be incredibly fulfilling! 🪚 Woodworking Group: Consider scheduling two separate programs – one for sanding the wood and another for building the houses. It's teamwork in action! 🎨 Paint Club: Host a special birdhouse painting hour. Don't forget to shellac the houses to weatherproof them and make them shine. 🦜 Birdwatching Group: Identify residents who are interested in birds and have them responsible for filling the feed and documenting our feathered friends' visits. It's a birdwatcher's dream come true. This project exemplifies the strength of community collaboration. Everyone's unique abilities can come together to create something beautiful. 🤝 Have you tried a community project like this? What was it and how did it go? 🐦🏡 #CommunityCollaboration #MoreThanABirdhouse #DiverseTalents #recreationtherapy #seniorlivingcommunity

This weekend I had the pleasure of checking out San Diego's newest public park in Mission Valley: River Park. The site has 2 huge grass areas large enough for multiple sports including soccer, football & rugby, surrounded by a 2 mile loop that's great for hiking or biking. The hardtop courts support four basketball hoops, including two half-courts and a full court, as well as pickleball. There is also fitness equipment, plus concrete table games, which can support soccer pong. A corn hole designated area is also available. The playground is designed for children 2 years old and up, the playground includes a rope climbing tree and play structures with slides and monkey bars. A few jungle gyms for the kids, child rockers, climbing poles, a large swing and 2 slides. The playground is designed with two tiers — one for older children and one for younger — connected by a safe-play slope, offering different challenges for kids. The park is open from dawn until dusk and is owned by San Diego State University, so be sure to pay close attention to the posted parking signs. Parking enforcement was out on Saturday giving tickets when I was there. A few things I think are also important to know: •All street parking is either metered or time-limited. Parking in the stadium lots is not allowed. Certain parking areas will be closed to the public when there is a stadium event. •No smoking of any kind. •No alcohol of any kind. •Dogs must be leashed and under the control of the owner at all times. throughout the park, including walkways and trails. Please clean up after your pet. •Groups of more than 49 persons must obtain a permit to hold or participate in any celebration, parade or special event. Contact mvcomments@sdsu.edu for more information. •it is unlawful to possess any cup, jar or container made of glass and used to carry or containing liquid. •The San Diego River is not accessible via the park. The river is a protected riparian zone. (I definitely noticed some stormwater structural BMP's on-site) It's great to see developers investing in outdoor spaces for all to enjoy. Hope to see around. 🛼 #SunDiego #SanDiego #RiverPark #MissionValley #SDSU #outdoorliving
