Nonprofits are the backbone of our communities today. Their impact cannot be overstated, as they contribute to social welfare, economic stability, and the overall quality of life in our communities. Nonprofits provide essential support and services to people who may not qualify for government assistance but still struggle to make ends meet. As community needs grow, nonprofits work tirelessly to recruit volunteers and collect sufficient donations to meet these needs. Our passionate teams continuously adapt, often achieving more with fewer resources. As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, we must recognize and support the invaluable contributions of nonprofit organizations. The continued success of nonprofits is essential for building resilient, compassionate, and thriving communities. The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas and all Ys invite you to advocate with us by asking our Members of Congress to support the nonprofit sector by cosponsoring the Charitable Act (S. 566). This bipartisan bill aims to restore and expand the non-itemizer charitable deduction that was in place during the pandemic, incentivizing more Americans to give to charities. Act now and help our community continue to thrive! Visit the YMCA Advocacy Campaign below to contact your local Members of Congress. Together, we can ensure that our nonprofits remain strong, resilient, and ready to serve those who need us most. #ymca #yusa #ymcavp

In case you didn't know, every state, local government, territory, and Tribal government must commit to spending all their State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) by DECEMBER 31, 2024–unobligated funds will be returned to the federal government. While the law mandates charitable nonprofit eligibility, it does not mean that nonprofits are entitled to a share of the funds–you must advocate for them! Today, MPs at the House of Commons were due to hold an important debate on the future of hospice care funding in the UK. With so many hospices facing a significant financial deficit this coming year (on top of those experienced last year!), this debate was never needed more, and was a light of hope for hospices up and down the country. But, they ran out of time to discuss this topic and hear from the MPs who wished to speak, and it is to be rescheduled. But the clock is ticking. How much time is left before many hospices will be forced to cut vital services, when demand has never been higher and these services are never needed more. What is important is that enough time is protected for this important discussion at this level - something that impacts all constituencies across the UK, and it provides us with more time to encourage our MPs to attend the next scheduled debate. It is completely astonishing that to receive patient centred end of life palliative care in the UK, delivered with compassion, dignity and respect, we rely on sponsored runs, open gardens, people buying second hand clothes and gifts left in Wills. Can you imagine treating maternity services like this? There would be uproar (and rightly so). So why is it acceptable at the end of life? PLEASE support your local hospice, so we can keep supporting you! #Hospicecare #Hospices #Charity #Dorset #ThirdSector
It was timely to see such a powerful articulation of the importance of children and adult hospice services on BBC Breakfast this morning. Thank you to Barbara-Anne Walker and Claire Shaw from Ashgate Hospice , Gareth Pierce MCIOF(AdvDip) from Forget Me Not Children's Hospice , and my colleague Katie Reade of Hospice UK for together making the case so strongly why today’s debate in Parliament must lead to fairer (and more) Government funding for the country’s charitable hospice sector. The time for serious discussion and action is now. If you missed it you can watch it on BBC Iplayer - I have put the link below this post as a comment - section starts at 2.17.10

Community perceptions of charities and community groups are shifting. That will require a reset in some of our thinking to find a new North. Community Council for Australia CEO David Crosbie delves into an absolute must read for #charities and #communitygroups: The Community Compass. In this article for the Community Advocate he discusses four of the many issues that arose for him when reviewing the findings: indifference; volunteering; our shifting values; and community views on purpose. 'People are generally very supportive of our work, and happy to become more involved where possible, but if we really want more engagement and support, we’ll have to do more than appeal to values like fairness and equity that no longer resonate strongly with everyone in our communities.' #charities #communitygroups #nfps #giving #volunteering Finding a new north – reflections on the Community Compass Report: https://lnkd.in/gPaNX2F3

📢 Supporting Thriving Communities Charities Institute Ireland welcomes the commitments in the draft Programme for Government aimed at strengthening communities across Ireland. The proposed measures outline clear steps and enhanced indicators to ensure sustainable support structures over the next five years. We are particularly encouraged by plans to update the tax code to better incentivise charitable giving and the commitment to progress Ireland’s first National Philanthropy Policy. These steps will be instrumental in fostering a stronger culture of philanthropy, enabling charities to drive meaningful and lasting change in society. By championing philanthropy and strategic giving, Ireland can unlock new opportunities to tackle pressing social challenges and build a more resilient future for all. #CharitiesInstituteIreland #Philanthropy #ThrivingCommunities #SocialImpact

Last week, Alton’s New York office took part in our Pledge 1% volunteer day initiative, once again teaming up with West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) in Manhattan to help alleviate hunger in the city. WSCAH’s crucial work ensures all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and support services. In support of the organization’s community-focused mission, the Alton team helped prepare 1,490 bags of fresh or shelf-stable food to serve more than 600 families in New York. Each year Alton supports Pledge 1% https://lnkd.in/eW_ANjH, where we not only donate 1% of our revenue, but also 1% of our time to charitable causes.
