🛠️ Last summer, I was invited to a workshop in #Hungary to discuss a proposed carbon capture and storage #CCS project at a #Biorefinery near the #Danube. It was quite interesting, given that low cost carbon capture at biorefineries in the #UnitedStates is catalysing #CO2 infrastructure development. It is worth noting that existing #Biogenic point source emissions in the #EU are around 180 Mt/year and are simply vented into the atmosphere. 🏭💨 💰For context, capturing the high purity streams of CO2 can be done with costs of between $18-$33 per tonne, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). 💡The thing is, in #Europe, there’s no tax or incentive on emitting biogenic #CO2, while in the US, there is an incentive to capture and store these emissions through the #45Q tax credit under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The Danube Removals Project is a full chain #CCS project that will aim to permanently store 500,000 tonnes of CO2 in an onshore aquifer. The selection of this project for funding under the #InnovationFund is a major step in the right direction, and hopefully the beginning of deployment at the low-cost, low-hanging fruit installations across Europe. On a personal note, I’m proud to see ClonBio Group Limited, an Irish company, sponsoring this forward-thinking project. James Cogan

Leopoldov, SLOVAKIA a member of the Envien Group and Slovenské Liehovary a likérky, have installed a new plant to capture and liquefy biogenic carbon dioxide. The plant, developed in Leopoldov, significantly helps to reduce fossil-fuel CO₂ emissions, and was manufacture by SIAD through its companies SIAD Slovakia and Tecno Project Industriale (TPI). The carbon capture and liquefaction plant required and investment by #SIAD of around 11 million euros. The annual production capacity is 40,000 tons of food-grade biogenic CO₂ , with the potential to increase to 80,000 tons in the project’s second phase. This would make it the only and largest facility of its kind in Slovakia. Read the press release 👉 https://lnkd.in/davtycUt

It is pleasing to be shortlisted in The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA) "AD Research and Innovation Awards" for 2024. The collaborative effort with Ixora Energy Limited is demonstrating Dark Fermentation of agricultural feedstocks at commercial scale. The result is a new source of #biohydrogen and boosted conversion rates of #biomethane. SMASH technology might just rewrite #anaerobicdigestion industry operating models...
We are very excited to announce that Ixora and ALPS Ecoscience UK Ltd have been shortlisted for the 2024 AD and Biogas Industry Awards’ ‘AD Research and Innovation’ category. This is thanks to our ground breaking collaboration on the SMASH project; the first commercial scale production of biohydrogen in the UK. The benefits of producing biohydrogen are manifold, not least because it could produce a clean fuel source for transportation, bringing us ever closer to our Net Zero goals! 📢 Embarking on #PRIMED. The Horizon Europe PRIMED project aims to unlock the vast potential of underutilized biomass resources in primary sectors. ⚪️ In line with the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and its bioeconomy strategy, the project aims to develop innovative Circular Business Models and establish fair and diverse value chains that transform neglected biomass resources into valuable products, thereby contributing to the sustainability and competitiveness of European industries. ⚪️ PRIMED incorporates five distinctive bioeconomy Living Labs that will refine, showcase, and evaluate the CBMs developed in the project, integrating primary producers into entirely new bioeconomy value chains. ⚪️ Collaborating with a spectrum of experts, we're united in our commitment to sustainable transformation. PRIMED is not just about imagining a greener future—it's about creating it, through practical evaluations and demonstrations of CBMs that will set the foundation for a resilient European bioeconomy. Together, let's make a difference! ➖ #BioEconomy #CircularEconomy
