Unlike many attorneys I'm not scared of AI. But I don't use it blindly. I'm lucky to have access to a system that operates only on a legal research database so you can at least trust it to not produce fake results or hallucinations. And it does help with phrasing of some paragraphs and arguments. I use it very much the same way that I go through other people's people's in filings in different cases for inspiration as to how to address some issue. I always have to reword things not to blindly copy, and check that the cited cases are real and actually say what is attributed to them. But again AI or no AI it's no different to me than when I compile a coherent filing from different materials I look at. But it comes with a unique set of challenges. The main issue for me is always tailoring the question in a way that produces relevant results. The computer can help me if I don't know what I want or I can't clearly articulate it. The unique challenge here is that I may have to spend some time tinkering with the query and run different versions of the same question to get to the real result. . Despite the challenges, integrating AI into my legal research workflow enhances my efficiency and effectiveness. #LegalAI #ai #attorney #legal #LegalResearch #AttorneyInsights

AI and Expert Witnesses: Partners in Justice As many of you know, I am an avid follower of AI and its development, use, and regulation. A recent article by the Law Society Gazette highlights a pivotal moment in the legal field. At the Expert Witness Institute conference, Sir Keith Lindblom reassured expert witnesses they will not be replaced by AI, despite its growing use in courts. AI presents immense opportunities, with experts adapting as overseers of AI-produced evidence. Lindblom emphasised that AI will improve the quality and consistency of expert reports and help determine suitable cases for online dispute resolution. However, he stressed that expert witnesses will remain indispensable, especially for ensuring justice through their understanding of new technologies. This exciting integration of AI in the legal sector promises to enhance both the accuracy of evidence and the efficiency of legal processes.
