Happy Earth Day! 🌎 Did you know cigarette butts, not bottles or bags, are the most common plastic pollution? Shockingly, they make up about 4.5 trillion pieces worldwide. Butts contain toxic chemicals like arsenic and lead, harming both people and the environment. Low-income communities suffer most, facing higher smoking rates and inadequate waste management. Let's do something abbut it! Dispose of butts properly and join programs like the UNIDAD Coalition (email abrenner@bhsst.org for more info!) that implement environmental strategies to help reduce tobacco litter in our communities. In a major move to curb litter and waste, while protecting young people from the dangers of vaping, the UK Government has confirmed a nationwide ban on disposable vapes. 💨🚮 Under the new policy, retailers will be prohibited from stocking non-refillable vapes, which have flooded the market, contributing to 1.3 million hard-to-recycle devices littered weekly – that's two every second!
