"Despite having cerebral palsy, a condition that affects his body’s motor functions, muscle movement, coordination and communication aside from a few words, Andy takes his job seriously -- getting up after his alarm sounds at 5:30 a.m. and loading his vehicle with treats before heading off to his usual spot." Great piece from Staten Island Advance/SILive.com about the power of #employment for people with #disabilities. We'll see you on the road, Andy!

We morphed into a society where people are often reluctant to rely on others. Anybody else out there with their hand up? So many of us hesitate, reject, or even fear the idea of depending on someone else. I have been one who would rather walk barefoot on a path of broken glass then step into a pool of lemon than ask for or accept help. Is it a hyper independent trauma response, a concern about being perceived as weak, or an ingrained belief that we must do it on our own? Regardless of why, that mindset overlooks an important truth: giving and receiving support is not only possible but is also healthy and essential for our well-being. Mutual support is a fundamental aspect of relationships that contributes to our health, recovery and connections to others. We were never meant to go it alone. Whether we need help to lift furniture, or make a call to get through the night, we need each other. #depend #fear #giving #give #receive #receiving #support #wy20 #supportoneanother #healthy #healthymindset #possible #vital #necessary #hyperindependence #trauma #traumaresponse #help #acceptance #ask #askforhelp #recovery #connection #community #relationships #sayyes #whatsyourtwenty #neveralone #strongertogether #we

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to forget the importance of self-love and compassion. Taking time to nurture ourselves not only enhances our well-being but also enriches our relationships and overall quality of life. Remember, self-love is not selfish; it's essential. By caring for ourselves, we cultivate a strong foundation of well-being that allows us to show up fully in our lives and extend compassion to the children we support. Take time to go through this list, created by Self Love Rainbow, and see how you can build more self love and compassion in your own life and your childs. #accessibility caption: An image of the “Foundations of Self Love” Circle. #ensembletherapy #playtherapy #childrenplaying #a4pt #playtherapyaustin #play #privatepractice #counselor #therapist #playtherapist #childtherapist #childcounselor #childtherapy #grouppractice #parenting #mentalhealth #atxtherapist #localbusiness #wellnessprofessionals #austintherapist #austintx #atx #atxcounselor #therapy #counseling

Carers week Day 2 Mental health….in the 9 years since I did this interview for BBC Carers Week there’s a few definitives : I’ve got older & balder and society talks about men’s mental health more. I cringe at the BBC using ‘superdad’ in the intro. Im not. I’m just a dad. Like any dad out there, kids changed me. Isaac changed me and challenges me every day to stay one step ahead of the black dog of letting things get on top of me. Some days I win, some I lose but the one constant is Isaac needing the best of us as parents. Male carer mental health support is a specific, long term need. Sometimes it’s just a need to unload the frustration about the situation you’re in, sometimes it’s the fact you’ve spent days and weeks with the mask on and need to let it come off and say what you really think about things. Whichever way, it’s something that is needed. A lot of carers support services make the errors of being 9-5, being a bit ‘not for blokes’, and kind of not realising that us guys spend our lives NOT talking so ergo you’re gonna have to make us have a reason to put that mindset aside and come along. This week gives an opportunity to reflect on how to get us male carers talking. Ask us how things are and if you really want to know don’t accept the first ‘okay’, ‘fine’ or ‘living the dream’. #carersweek https://lnkd.in/e3qD5AGv

Struggling to balance personal needs with family and friends' requests? Many of us find ourselves in this situation, where we prioritise others over ourselves. However, it's important to set boundaries and learn to say no when necessary. 🚫 #PersonalNeeds #FamilyAndFriends #SettingBoundaries #SelfCare Clare Keniry, Kingsley Taylor, David Pugh

In the past, I've been notorious for holding stress in for too long, until it hurts those around me! Can you relate? As husbands, fathers, and career-oriented individuals, we often feel the weight of the world on our shoulders to provide. Our days are spent in service to others- our families and coworkers. But are we spending any time taking care of ourselves? Remember, taking care of yourself is not a luxury, it's a necessity. If not, it's easy to crack under the pressure of providing for those around us. That's why community is so vital in our lives. Make time for yourself and find a community that supports you. Don't wait until it's too late, before stress and overwhelm take over your life. If you're in search of a brotherhood community rooted in building strong men, send me a DM with "community". Let's prioritize self-care and your mental well-being together! #selfcare #community #mentalhealth

Give your teenagers the space to practice saying "No" and argue with you. This helps you to get to know them more and how they think and also trains them to share their opinion and thoughts openly without the fear of being rejected or judged. That way they can confidently say " No " to things suggested by their peers if it doesn't align with family values. Family is where you practice life skills. #parenting #counseling #children #connection #familylove #lifecoaching #care #fypシ゚ #activelistening #positivemindset #positivecommunication #FamilyValues

Founder of CoachLandry, LLC - Health & Well-being Coaching Utilizing Jaguar-like Focus & Grace for Lasting Transformations
“I was ready to give up”. These are the words a caregiver client of mine cried out to me during one of our sessions. Unfortunately, these words are all too common in today’s grim reality for caregivers, who have no choice but to juggle caregiving while working full time jobs. In 2024, it is estimated that more than 1 in 5 employees will also be required to assume the role of caregiver for a medically challenged family member. Burnout, mental health issues, anxiety, and feelings of isolation are all too prevalent amongst this group. How can we help uplift these task-juggling caregivers in our lives? 1. Acknowledge them as important to you by visiting bearing gifts, such as books, flowers, a gift of respite care, or a coaching sessions package to foster focused self-care. 2. Reduce the isolation by visiting/calling them. Keep the focus on your caregiver to let she/he feel heard. Have a conversation about their interests, feelings, and dreams. 3. Appreciate them by volunteering to visit/monitor the care recipient while your caregiver showers, takes a nap, or eats a meal without interruption. What other ways could you support our caregivers? If you’re open to sharing, I’d love to hear your ideas. ⬇️
