I provide online pre recorded trainings for mechanical designers who want to improve themselves, preparing to take PAE or PCE exams.
This slide explains how to build up the system curve from your operation point. The process described is actually automated in my spreadsheet which is available in my plumbing webinar. The system curve should be included in your tender document as it will enable the correct selection of pump. For more details, click and register. https://lnkd.in/gyqGBuEC

Table D1 from SPAN is a tabulation on the number of pumps and type of pumps allowed for selected flow rate of each pump. Thus, from the system flow rate, we need to go through the table to see which row it falls on. If flow rate calculated is less than or equal 300m3/hr, then use 1 duty and 1 standby pump, either horizontal split casing or end suction pumps. If flow rate is less than 100m3/hr, use end suction pump. If flow rate is between 300m3/hr and 2000m3/hr, use 2 duty and 2 standby pumps and only split casing pump. Otherwise use 4 duty pumps and 2 standby pumps. Wanna learn more about pump and pipe sizing for pumping main? How about the sizing of gravity pipe for external water reticulation which need to consider both scenarios of peak flow and fire flow+ average flow? And many more interesting topics are covered such as sanitary plumbing, internal plumbing and hot water demand calculation. Click to register and learn. https://lnkd.in/gyqGBuEC

According to a recent study, 0.8% of installed pipes are replaced every year. This may not seem like a large percentage, but it is. You should also consider the fact that some piping isn't replaced when it actually should be replaced. Because we can't see every inch of piping in our homes, knowing when to replace piping can be nearly impossible. However, there are some ways that you can identify that it's time to change your home's piping. https://lnkd.in/eWX8DzVh

Our authority Having Jurisdiction Can't decided yet about Automatic Sprinklered buildings feed main and horizontal standpipe pipes separation, what should we do? This is a humble question to all authorities having jurisdiction board, why did you force everyone to separate the feed main and horizontal pipe although NFPA-14 declared that there was no need for separation clearly in editions 2013 and 2019?

Deluge system is an empty pipe fitted with open nozzles at the end. The discharge is controlled by deluge valve which can be activated fire detection devices or pilot sprinklers limited to 1000ft length. The activation can be hydraulic or electrical release. The calculation is quite similar to sprinkler hydraulic except that there is no AMAO area. All nozzles release water controlled by one valve. When designing the system, you need to determine the density of nozzle which is dependent on the design objective whether for cooling, extinguishing, vapour dilution or controlling fire. Click to register and learn sprinkler design for storage area, hydraulic calculation, ESFR sprinklers in hanger and deluge sprinklers at only an affordable price of rm130 with spreadsheets. And by topping up rm70, you get access to the precalculated design as well. So register for sprinkler hydraulic and you will get all these. https://lnkd.in/gBMy2SUU

What are some of the important decisions that designers can make when designing chilled water system? Here is a list but may not be comprehensive. 1) Decoupler pipe sizing for primary secondary system 2) Bypass pipe sizing and linear valve specification for VPF system 3) Manifold or dedicated pumps? 4) Pump flow adjustment using throttling or VSD? 5) Running 2 pumps at 50% or 1 pump at full flow? 6) Delta T and LMTD for coil 7) Series compressors, advantage and control setting 8) Buffer tank sizing for loop time of chiller or expansion of water during start up? 9) Variable or fixed condenser water flow rate? Cooling tower control. 10) Ice tanks upstream or downstream of chiller? Learn about chill and condenser water design. Click to learn and register in course that spans more than 4 hours if I can remember. https://lnkd.in/gTUJ_DYj

Below is an extract of my spreadsheet which is part of the cold water plumbing webinar on demand. It is a calculation of the maximum NPSH that is required by our selected pump from the calculations of NPSH available. NPSHa is function of the system while NPSHr is function of the pump. Note that NPSHr for centrifugal pumps normally increase with flow rate but the reverse is true on the NPSHa of the system. There are more spreadsheets available in the course for calculating pump head and pipe size for delivery, gravity distribution pipe sizing for external water pipe in accordance to span to comply to both the peak flow demand and fire flow demand. And you also get to build up your own system curve using only 2 known point, ie calculated operating point and the zero flow point. Not having the system curve available for pump selection can have deep repercussion. Learn cold water plumbing, sanitary plumbing and hot water demand calculations all in one package. Click to register and learn in 7 hours video course. https://lnkd.in/gyqGBuEC
