How to nail fundraising in 5 steps: Last week, at the 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁, I attended a session moderated by Harold Graham on going from Seed to Scale. Here are some key points that resonated: 1. 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿-𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵. Research VC’s thesis before you contact. 2. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵. Learn about the investor first. It builds rapport. 3. 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀. Use all touchpoints: events, warm intros, email, social. 4. 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀. Focus on fundraising and strategy, not admin work. 5. 𝗕𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹. Persistence pays off without crossing boundaries.
