Day 1 at the ASU GETS Conference: Governance of Emerging Technologies and Science After attending today's sessions at the 2024 GETS Conference at the ASU Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, I am incredibly impressed by the quality of the sessions, speakers, and attendees. The opening plenary on Quantum Governance and the concurrent sessions on AI, genomics, health technology, autonomous vehicles, and more were profoundly insightful. As someone passionate about the intersection of technology and ethics, I'm eager to explore how these insights can be applied in my work in public interest technology. One session that particularly stood out was "Principled Governance for the Responsible Use of AI" by Dr. Claudia I. Emerson of McMaster University. Ethical considerations in emerging technologies, especially AI, were the focus of the conversation. Dr. Emerson emphasized the need to address these considerations to ensure a positive impact on society. The speaker highlighted the importance of using a framework to navigate potential risks and uncertainties. The speakers acknowledged the benefits of AI but stressed the need for responsible development and adoption. The application of the BSI PAS 440:2020 specifications can help us respond to the call for responsible use of AI, and I felt that Dr. Emerson's session strongly supported this insight. I am looking forward to attending tomorrow’s sessions and highly encourage you to attend as well. The insights shared today were invaluable, and I am confident that tomorrow will be just as enlightening. If you are interested, you can register using the link below: https://lnkd.in/g24yUbjv I hope to see you there! #GETSConference #ASULaw #ResponsibleAI #PAS440

Funding for AI material discovery has been growing 🔬 AI Material Discovery is an emerging field accelerating the process of discovering and designing new materials with specific properties. Traditionally slow and costly, AI can analyze vast datasets, predict properties, and identify promising compounds far more rapidly. $260M has already been raised by AI material discovery startups according to Dealroom.co data, led by EvolutionaryScale's massive $142M Seed round. Europe was responsible for 30% of total funding this year and 10/17 rounds, with companies such as ExoMatter, Dunia and Orbital Materials raising in the past month alone. A few applications include: ⚡ Aiding sustainable development by finding eco-friendly alternatives for energy storage and carbon capture. 🩺 Advancing medicine and technology with durable materials for devices and electronics. 🚀 Exploring materials suited for extreme environments to support breakthroughs in space and marine engineering. "You can't solve this problem with software alone but by combining machine learning with chemical robotics, we can iterate faster and generate high-quality data, drastically cutting down the time needed to discover new materials.“ said Dr. Alexander Hammer, Co-Founder of Dunia.
