A recommendation by #bankruptcy Monitor Ernst & Young to sell Pride Group back to its founders for $56 million and maintain the company as a going concern was not met well by stakeholders, and just one day later, in its 13th report, the Monitor indicated Pride operations will be wound up. 🌿 March is B Corp month, so I felt it would be a good time to share an update on our progress so far at MONC. 🗓️ Nine months ago, we began the B Impact Assessment and have since been tackling several paperwork-heavy tasks, environmental and ethical policies, and employee handbooks, the kinds of things that weren’t front of mind when I started MONC from my bedroom on my own back in 2016. 🕶️ At that point, my sole focus was on creating the best product possible, but as MONC grows, this is a crucial step in our commitment to being a better business for the planet and our employees. ✍️ While this is not the most instantly rewarding phase, its clearly vital for all businesses to go through if they’re going to be taken seriously when it comes to impact, and to avoid greenwashing. As a small team and sole-founder, finding time has been a massive challenge, and admittedly, it's taken longer than expected. However, this process sets the foundation for MONC's future, and we're determined not to rush it. 👋 As we navigate this stage, I’m eager to connect with our industry peers. That's fantastic! Working for an ethical company can be very rewarding. There are a couple of reasons why we might feel proud to be part of Flex. Alignment with Values: It means your personal values are reflected in the company's mission and practices. This can lead to greater job satisfaction and purpose. Positive Impact: Ethical companies are mindful of their impact on stakeholders, including employees, customers, and the environment. You can feel good about contributing to something positive.

The press is covering the FDIC’s low placement in the most recent Best Places to Work Survey as bad news. It is, but I say it’s also an opportunity! When I became FDIC chair in 2006, we ranked 28 of 30 major agencies. Our ranking rose with each survey and during my last year, we were at 1! How did we get there? It took work and perseverance to change the culture. But we got there by listening to the rank and file, rewarding hard work and professionalism, and imposing accountability on those who did not meet the FDIC’s high standards. That top ranking, fed by our pride in all that we had achieved during the GFC, lasted for many years. I get angry when people try to characterize the FDIC as a place that’s always had bad culture. That’s not true. It’s a great agency with a great legacy. The vast majority of employees are hard-working professionals, dedicated. Yes, fundamental changes are needed. But the FDIC was once a proud place to work, and can be so again.
