Less than 100 days away from the FIRST EVER Global Ministerial Conference on Violence against Children which will take place on 7-8 November in Bogota, Colombia. Every year, at least one billion children experience violence – that’s half of the world’s children. But ending violence is possible with strong political leadership, evidence-based policies and interventions, and adequate finance. The conference will be a pivotal moment for secure commitment for action. UNICEF is a co-organizer of this historic forum, along with the Governments of Colombia and Sweden, the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children and the WHO.  https://lnkd.in/gJiQEeim

I'm thrilled to share the article I co-authored, titled "Spatial Analysis of Gender-Based Violence in Benin." This work sheds light on the geographic disparities in GBV incidents across the country, exploring how factors like socio-cultural dynamics, urbanization, and economic conditions contribute to these patterns. At Mercy Hands Europe (MHEU), we are dedicated to creating a future where violence has no place. 🤝 How MHEU is Supporting Non-Violence? A. Awareness Raising on Violations & Laws • Educate communities on violence, atrocities, and legal frameworks. • Promote reporting mechanisms and understanding of rights. B. Capacity Building & SoPs • Train local actors, CSOs, and government staff to handle violations. • Establish Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for effective response. • Develop sustainable frameworks for long-term accountability. C. Coordination & Partnerships • Partner with international bodies like UNCED to improve response and reporting. • Build a national network for collaboration and capacity-building. • Conduct workshops and awareness campaigns to prevent future violations. D. Advocacy for Reforms • Promote legal reforms and democratic governance. • Strengthen local actors to drive human rights improvements. Together, we can build a more just and peaceful Iraq. It is a new year, and the YPS Observer turns 1! To mark the occasion, and to begin this 10th anniversary year of the YPS agenda, I asked some brilliant friends and colleagues activists and academics to share one thing they will be paying attention to this year. With many thanks to the fabulous Katrina Leclerc, Khaled Emam, Caitlin Mollica, Marie-Rose TSHITE, and Lani Anaya Jiménez! Their responses include broad concern for the impact of fragmentation and mistrust characterising global politics and commitments to the agenda itself and young people as a population, to specific reflections on regional or national engagement with YPS as an agenda, and what a ‘YPS agenda’ can offer precarious political contexts like that in Syria. We achieve this through open source research, digital investigations, capacity-building with local partners, and collaboration with media to amplify our impact. - CIR was born out of a determination to expose those spreading harm – online and offline – around the world, particularly in areas of violent conflict, such as Ukraine, Sudan and Myanmar. Our projects are at the forefront of efforts to investigate and document human rights abuses, war crimes, harms targeting women and minorities, and influence operations. The Ministerial Segment of the Brussels 8th Conference “Supporting the future of Syria and the region” happens today: after 13 years of crisis, the Humanitarian Response Plan for Syria is still underfunded, while the needs of Syrians and host communities continue to increase. With the rising threat of #foodinsecurity in Syria and neighbouring host countries and the disruption of the #education system due to the prolonged crisis, the EU must step up its financial commitment and focus on long-term interventions using innovative and integrated approaches to ensure every child in the region enjoys their rights and thrives.

“Treat us like humans” was the resounding plea from this recent piece of research by NACCOM and the Good Faith Partnership. Based on 3 focus groups held between July - October 2024, the report amplifies the voices of 30 people with lived experience of the asylum system. The report points to systemic failings in the current model of asylum support and accommodation that undermines the dignity and wellbeing of people seeking asylum.
