Q: What is something you think most people don’t know or understand about the Manufacturing Industry? Deontae: A lot of people tend to think that manufacturing consists of assembly lines and repetitive labor, but the truth of the matter today's manufacturing requires workers that are high skilled and have a certain level of expertise in the area they are working in. That’s why with most big-time manufacturing companies it's required for you to have a degree. Q: What is your favorite aspect of your job? Deontae: This role I am in now gives me the opportunity to connect with and lead a bunch of different personalities, I would say the best part is being able to connect and work with my crew and build a foundation and relationship off trust. ❤️ SEQENS Custom & Specialties are passionate about encouraging the future workforce to learn about the chemical industry and the vast number of career routes it has to offer. 👨🎓 Two students completed an informative three-day industrial work experience placement this week and were initially introduced to employees from various departments including, operations, maintenance, quality control, research and development (R&D) and health and safety (EHS). ✔️ Day 1 included an overview of plant B5.1 at the Billingham site, where personal care products are manufactured. Observations were made of plant equipment operations including reaction, phase separation by the liquid/liquid extraction column and distillation. Pumps, manual valves and automated valves were operated. ✔️ Day 2 included an overview of the site logistics, observing imports of raw materials and exports of final products and waste streams taking place. The students were informed about the daily movements schedule, the offloading/loading bays and the plant equipment that is involved with supporting this operation. The students were then enlightened about the importance of quality control and ensuring that imports/exports meet the required quality specifications. ✔️ During day 3 of the work experience, the students shadowed members of the maintenance team and observed equipment being removed for overhaul and inspection. The students then transitioned to learn more about quality control and observed a range of analytical methods being performed. These included titrations and GC analysis. The work experience students learned about real industrial operations and are looking forward to sharing details with their fellow classmates! #SEQENS #customprocessing #specialtychemical
