99% of people would walk right past this poster. Why? ❌ The dates are barely visible, you can't evoke any urgency if the show date isn't the first thing people see. ❌ It's generic. This is probably the same poster that your rival school used last year, and your audience won't even realize this is a new event. How do we fix this? ✅ Design it by hand. If you have an artistically inclined student or team member, utilize them! If not, hiring a specialized theatrical designer is your best bet. You spend hundreds and hundreds of hours perfecting your on-stage production, STOP letting something as simple as the poster deter people from coming.

#careertip Tuesday So, you want to be an Art Director? Tip No.16 - Learn to trust your Producer (or find another one) One of the most important allies an Art Director can have is their Production Team. If you’re lucky you’ll get to work with a person/ people that will go above and beyond to make sure you are in line with everything. Some of the Leads and Directors tend to create the schedules themselves while i would encourage you to work on the schedules together with your peers on the Production side. They will make sure everyone is aware of the deadlines, keep reminding your team/-s about priorities and help organize every day's work. Great Producers are worth their weight in gold (so look for smaller ones of course).

Parenting Educator/Consultant/Parenting Coach for Organizations - I coach and consult parents and organizations to understand, support and launch resilient and confident young creative artists.
Teens and young adults pursuing careers in or adjacent to performing arts deal with a lot of misconceptions about their goals. So many times they deal with adults assuming they must be pursuing fame. As I think about why this is, I’m struck by one reasons this may be in particular. Outside of so many only have a reference point of “fame” in connection to actors, music artists, dancers etc. But they don’t understand and/or recognize the plethora of arts related careers that have no general visibility. The sound engineers, directors, composers, set designers, wardrobe/costume designers, make-up artists, animators, voice-over actors, copywriters, video game designers…the list is endless. Nor do they think about all of the professional arts they come in contact with in everyday life. The live music at dinner, the paintings from local artists in the coffee shop, the company dancers at the performance of The Nutcracker they enjoyed over the holidays. As a mom of performing artists, I truly hope we can change the narrative and lean in to more recognition and understanding of what a “successful”career in the arts may include. There are a huge number of artistic careers that are port of our world. And they have nothing to do with pursing fame. #career #performingarts #parenting #goalsetting #artscareer #momlife

Thank you The Location Guide you the interview and feature. "The thing that any young up-and-coming creative should be told is that unlike the corporate path where there's an understood hierarchy and career progression, when it comes to the arts, you get in however the hell you can. You call on friends, you cold call, you build doors and knock them down, you sneak onto set, you run your own set, you strike at every angle you can until something clicks. You cannot be in love with the concept of “a starving artist,” even though you will be one (for a time). Ultimately, your brand isn’t the format you shoot with or the aspect ratio you shoot within, it’s your point-of-view on life. The stories you resonate with, the emotional beats in which you choose to place emphasis – those are the hallmarks of your style. That is what defines you as a filmmaker." #TBT Some behind the scenes documentation of Foley (performed sound effects to match onscreen action) on “Contact Traces”, a short film by Kevin Obsatz. Congrats on a second consecutive day’s social media mention, Kevin! Given the fame and fortune he’s attained since, it’s hard to believe that Sam Carlson was once a Cool Cat Audio intern– and yet there he was, subtly dunking a ball infuser and sliding it out again in sync with looped video footage like a pro! This was, in fact, the first time Sam and I had ever met in person– most of the internship took place remotely during COVID quarantine. Also featured here (in the comments): notes on preferred takes, plus some of the objects I brought in as props to capture handling, impacts, friction, and general presence of physical movement during the film. It’s a quiet, reflective piece for the most part, so the moves had to be nuanced. But the cloth is all clean laundry here, folks. That’s the Cool Cat Audio difference! #foley #sounddesign #foleyartist #sounddesigner #postproduction #sound #soundeffects #audio #soundengineer #sfx #audioengineer #cinema #movie #producer #soundrecording #studio #foleyrecording #recording #filmsound #film #video #filmmaking #filmmaker #creativity #contentmaker #contentproducer #creative #creativepractice #audiopost

I can still hear the voice from the screen, calmly narrating: "You can achieve immortality simply by doing one great thing." Eighteen years ago, Johnny Walker's Human (The Android) ad created by people I would never meet changed my life. It did more than just capture my attention, it led me to a life path I would not change for anything in the world. For nearly two decades, I honed my skills meticulously – writing, cinematography, photography, art, and graphic design – all in pursuit of the dream of working for a prestigious international advertising agency. I longed to create and inspire as I had been inspired. To accomplish my "one great thing." After four years at my dream company, at least on paper, I walked away. I'll forever treasure the wonderful, talented colleagues I've worked alongside, and I'll carry the lessons and knowledge I've gained with a smile. Yet, I never found the opportunity to realize my "one great thing" there. In fact, I felt it slipping further from my grasp. Climbing the corporate ladder and acquiring titles don't always lead to a meaningful life. We all know deep inside what our souls crave to do, so we better listen before it's too late. So, at 35, I find myself starting all over again, pursuing the dream my teenage self held dear. I hope to make her proud. Perhaps I'll never achieve my "one great thing," but I'll give it my all. #Creative #CreativeAdvertising #CareerReflections #CreativeDirector #CreativeJourney
