According to the U.S. Department of Defense, approximately 200,000 service members transition from military service to civilian life each year. This number includes members of the active duty military, the National Guard, and the Reserves. The transition from military to civilian life can be a challenging one. Service members may need to find new jobs, housing, and health care. They may also need to adjust to a new lifestyle and culture. There are a number of resources available to help service members transition to civilian life. These include: - The Department of Defense's Transition Assistance Program (TAP) - The USO's Transition and Employment Assistance program - Hiring Our Heroes - Onward to Opportunity These programs offer a variety of services, such as job training, resume writing assistance, and interview skills training. They can also help service members find employment opportunities. If you are a service member or military spouse who is transitioning to civilian life, there are a number of resources available to help you. Please reach out to one of the programs listed above for more information. Please add more in the comments. Our members and their spouses need to be seen in the workforce to showcase the community honoring their valuable skill sets and in turn this will help inspire the next generation to replace us! #militaryrecruiting101 MilCruit, VETS2INDUSTRY, American Corporate Partners (ACP), Hiring Our Heroes, USO, The KEY Community

Military Jargon: Breaking Down the Barriers Have you ever found yourself puzzled by military speak? 🤔 It's not uncommon for civilian employers to feel bewildered by the jargon Veterans use during interviews or on their CVs. (Service leavers and veterans take note, you need to adapt!) From "Orders of the Day" to "PPE" (Personal Protective Equipment), these terms can leave recruiters scratching their heads. Take for example, the term "Overhead" - in the military, it often means air support, but in a business context, it's all about expenses. Such differences can sometimes create obstacles to understanding a Veteran's true skills and experience. Understanding these terms is crucial not just for communication, but for appreciating the unique skills Veterans bring to civilian roles. As Veterans adapt to the civilian workforce, it's equally important for employers to bridge this gap. This mutual understanding can pave the way for successful partnerships and a more diversified workforce. Have you encountered any military jargon that left you confused? Attention recruiters and the veteran community! It's time to do better when it comes to hiring transitioning veterans. Recently, I came across a job opportunity for a project management position that was listed as "Officer's only" need apply. As someone who has worked in defense contracting, I can tell you that military rank has had ZERO bearing on my daily duties. I have seen enlisted soldiers with advanced degrees and certifications successfully manage hundreds of millions of dollars of equipment and soldiers. It's time to break away from the archaic thought process that enlisted soldiers aren't educated and start recognizing the qualifications and expertise of all transitioning veterans. Let's eliminate these unnecessary barriers and open up opportunities to highly qualified applicants. #veteranshelpingveterans #transitioningveterans

Taken from a fellow Veteran who attended a work convention for her component… “18 million people apply for a position on USA Jobs a year and only 250 thousand people are hired annually.” I guess the real question is, do you have a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in your corner? Why is having a SME regarding USAJOBS in your corner important? Well, by learning from someone else’s experience, you have an opportunity to make less mistakes, focus on what is relevant, and to learn about upwardly mobile positions that you had no idea existed. Just ask the many transitioning Service Members, Veterans, and Military Spouses that received some sort of consultation or job lead from yours truly. Their results speak for themselves. #MilitaryMentorship #VeternsHelpingVeterans #FederalEmployment
