How does AMC stay ready to support large scale military operations worldwide? On a panel at #AFANational, Gen. Johnny Lamontagne discussed his approach to mobility readiness. “For us, exercises are really about the opportunity to rehearse. Exercising the mobility forces at a Joint level allows us to project, sustain and employ the entirety of the Joint Force. We are getting a good idea of what that looks like early, this is what we plan to do with Mobility Guardian 2025, getting those reps and sets in to help our forces.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gnYVzNfq

The U.S. Air Force is undergoing a major restructuring to better prepare for potential conflicts with major powers like China, as announced at the Air & Space Forces Association Warfare Symposium in Colorado. Moving away from its previous deployment model of assembling squadrons from various units across the service, the Air Force will now train and deploy "whole units" or wings together, aimed at enhancing combat readiness and coherence. This initiative, part of a broader strategy called “Reoptimizing for Great Power Competition,” includes 24 changes across both the Air Force and Space Force, encompassing development of personnel, readiness generation, power projection, and capability development. Significant changes include the establishment of an Integrated Capabilities Command to streamline combat readiness, the creation of new offices for capability integration, and the expansion and renaming of Air Education and Training Command to Airman Development Command for more focused force development. Additionally, a Space Force Futures Command is being set up to address future threats with integrated tactics, training, and technologies. According to Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall and Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin, these transformations are designed to align the Air Force directly against its most significant threats without substantial immediate cost increases, though some changes, like large-scale exercises, may require future budget adjustments. #usairforce #china #militaryrestructuring #combatreadiness #greatpowercompetition #airandspaceforces #modernization #integratedcapabilities #airmandevelopment #spaceforcefutures Source- https://lnkd.in/eMEVqp33

Navigating the Kármán Line Integrating Military Air and Space Michael Spirtas, Sarah Harting, Julia Brackup, Christopher Ferris, Jonathan Fujiwara, George Nacouzi, Michael Nixon, Joseph B. Piroch, Anthony D. Rosello, Ryan C. Thulin Oct 22, 2024 Rather than relying on personal relationships or top-down initiatives, now is the time for the DAF to identify and develop governance or other related mechanisms to guide interservice decisionmaking and coordination across shared issues and interests. The USAF and the USSF can continue to generate goodwill with one another by working together outside the DAF. By promoting common positions in the Joint Requirements Oversight Council, Deputy's Management Action Group, and other arenas, the two services can defend the DAF's budget, promote DAF initiatives, and advance other common DAF equities. A great way to decrease tension is to conceive of and field capabilities that help the other service. This is already being done today for ISR as the two services work to develop air-based and space-based platforms to support joint operations, but differences may arise in areas where there are shared interdependencies between the services. Both the air and space communities would benefit from an increased understanding of how operations in one domain affect operations in the other. Guardians are developing more of an operational mindset, which should help in this regard. Likewise, airmen would benefit from a more precise understanding of how space supports air operations and how air can support space now and in the future. The DAF should foster and promulgate a vision for the relationship between the two services and a sense of common purpose. A DAF vision for the air-space relationship should support and recognize service independence while promoting operational interdependence.
