LLM as master graduate Certainly a far too pessimistic viewpoint on #genai. However, LLMs are a bit like master student graduates. They can do a lot, but not really much useful things for an enterprise. Without running through an intense internship they are missing the basics of contributing to daily business. And after that internship another at least three years of experience are required to achieve greatness in that area. Not everyone will become great. The best time to use AI is when it is not a 'need'. Hello #LinkedIn Family, It's another moment of sharing the insights gleaned from today's class, day 5. We learnt about the role of AI in assisting Legal research and document automation, in the legal industry. As the learned Silk, Atoyebi Oyetola Muyiwa, S.A.N., FCIArb. (U.K) took us on this joyful ride, I came across some familiar insights from previous lectures I had attended on the issues of AI in the legal space. While emphasizing on the need for AI to be an augmenting tool, our facilitator pointed the need for humans to be their own primary source of solution. Personally, I try guard my mind against becoming dependent on AI. The human brain exercises by positively and creatively thinking. Undoubtedly, AI is crucial in promoting efficiency. However, there is need to guard against mental laxity. It has come to stay, and is not necessarily forcing its way into our lives. We welcome it with open arms, as a tool for efficiency. Therefore, as the learned Silk urged, we must retain oversight of the tool, while position ourselves to maximize its benefits by developing ourselves to be conversant with the it. I gave a lecture after just attending one. 😅 My junior sister has always been a very curious girl, perhaps too curious for her age.😅 Today, after I finished my lecture on AI and legal research, my sister, who was curious about what I have been learning so far on the internship, asked me to teach her what I had just learnt, so I sat down and shared what I will be sharing with you now with her. As we all know, artificial intelligence (AI) is a tool that makes our jobs easier; this also applies to the legal field, specifically legal research. AI has improved legal research by reducing the time and effort required for traditional research methods. It enables lawyers to spend less time conducting research while obtaining more accurate and efficient results. Some of the AI tools or platforms that have assisted in legal research are: 📌 LexisNexis, the earliest platform 📌 Law pavilion 📌 Primsol 📌 Legalpedia 📌 Westlaw edge As much as AI is a very useful tool, we must be careful not to allow it to take away our mental capabilities; it should not replace your thinking ability because doing so would only make you lazy. AI was designed to assist, not do all of the work. Be as authentic as possible even when using AI; use emotions because AI will not, and do not forget to review any work you have done with AI. How do you view AI in the workplace? Personally, I believe that it's about to disrupt the way we do work in ways we can't yet comprehend which is frankly terrifying. I also don't think there is anything we can do to stop it from happening, so it's our job to learn how to use it in a thoughtful way and to coach those we manage how to use it as well. My advice to recent college grads: learn how to use AI to save yourself, your boss and your company time. In time, the role of an entry level employee will either need to adapt to use AI or it will be replaced by AI. If you can't beat them, join them.
