What is your potential? Soldiers I screen for SkillBridge or full-time positions, always think linear. They have a degree or a job they did in the military, and they ask for a job in that space. I want to challenge you to think beyond a degree or a job. What can you do? What experiences have you had that enabled new skills and capabilities? Think about that and do not limit your potential. I served 8 years in the US Army. I was an M1A1 Systems Mechanic for our main battle tank. If you ask me what I did in the Army, you will get an exceptionally long list that includes being a technician. Those experiences gave me skills in management, supervision, collaboration, dynamic process flow, data analytics, inventory management, planning, and procurement. Most important of the skills I learned was “Learning Agility.” This is something that is unique about military service. It is just how we operate in peace and combat. We learn, adapt, unlearn, and relearn to deal with changing situations. Why is this important? Once you understand this you can do anything you set your mind to. We are not limited to a degree or a job we had. We can do anything.

The shortage of aviation technicians has vast impacts which have left us in desperate need of a strategy to bring more workers into the field. We need to be doing everything we can to ensure that our veterans are set up for success once they leave service, but too often that isn't the case. I love that this program takes these two key issues and uses them to address each other. #Aviation #AviationTechnicians #SkilledTechnicians

United and American don't need to turn up 3 jets to fly 2. "Air Power is built on the backs of aircraft mechanics. While the glamour goes to the pilots and operators who parachute out of them, it is the mechanic that ensures every aircraft’s reliability and readiness for the skies. As aviation technology advances, the need for experienced aircraft mechanics remains constant. Though often overlooked, the mechanic should be recognized and supported as a critical piece in military readiness." This problem goes beyond the usual quality-of-life and bonus issues that these discussions tend to revolve around. The military needs to look at how it performs maintenance and how it manages maintenance personnel in general. Things like embracing best commercial practices and incorporating conditions based maintenance instead of disassembling aircraft at arbitrary times would help. So would treating aircraft maintenance as a real profession, not something done between sweeping floors and tours yelling at recruits. https://lnkd.in/gggAndQK

Marshalling involves directing the movement of aircraft on the ground using hand signals or marshalling wands. It is usually performed by ground crew members such as Aircraft Marshals, Ground Handlers, or Ground Operations Personnel. Aircraft Service Technicians typically focus on the maintenance, repair, and inspection of aircraft rather than marshalling. However, in some situations, Aircraft Service Technicians may assist with marshalling if they are trained and qualified to do so, especially in smaller operations or during emergencies when additional personnel may be needed to manage aircraft movements on the ground. Additionally, in military or smaller general aviation settings, individuals may have multiple roles and responsibilities, including both aircraft maintenance and ground operations tasks such as marshalling. Exciting week for the #CombatRescueHelicopter! Many large pieces of the #CombatRescueWorldTour came together this week for a huge milestone. Architects from #hdr and planners Army Corps of Engineers #usace completed the 35% Design Review and the #valueengineering assessment for three new construction projects. Joining them was several engineers from our #aflcmc program office, and myself representing the resource sponsor who writes the check. Together we finalized plans for three new buildings to house flight simulators at Air National Guard bases in California, New York, and Alaska bringing simulation capabilities to these #ANG units for the first time. 🚁 Good skills require great practice Simulators allows pilots and crew members to train more often and at less cost than in-aircraft training. More often also means more conveniently, especially for ANG pilots balancing two careers where scheduling training flights in the aircraft can be a challenge. Also, simulators allow crews to conduct mission rehearsals and practice high-risk "varsity" maneuvers in a zero-risk environment. Practice makes perfect, and keeps you alive. 💵 Value Engineering Clearly, every project has a wide array of options driving cost and performance. The fun part was seeing them compared visually and numerically to illustrate the impact of each incremental change, and hearing the managing engineer from each location run through their checklist of whether or not the juice was worth the squeeze. This was the most interesting part for me. Not only did each location have different rules based on their states, but each managing engineer had different priorities and weighed each option in their own way.

Employee Spotlight 💡 Richard Dones – President Mr. Dones is the newly appointed President of Alliance and has been with the company since its inception in 2003. He began his career in the Refrigeration Industry while in the Marines, where he worked on refrigerating avionics on military aircraft. Over the past 21 years with Alliance, Mr. Dones has worked on well over 500 Refrigeration and HVAC projects and currently holds a Contractor’s License in 10 US States. When Alliance opened its doors in 2003, Mr. Dones started out as a Service Technician. Since then he has moved his way up to Service Manager, Vice President of Operations, and recently the new President of Alliance. “From day one to nearly 21 years with Alliance, each moment has led me to this incredible new chapter as President. Grateful for the journey, the lessons, and the people who have been and will continue to be with me along this path.
