Job opportunities! Some of you may have seen the launch of the National Call to Maritime Service, which will have a TON of resources, which are coming soon! This effort highlights the many positions and benefits to service, both uniformed and civilian. Before those resources though, I wanted to highlight an amazing opportunity. On a panel a few months ago, talking with other military spouses about resilience, I was able to hear from many spouses who expressed frustration at not being hired, but would love to be more involved in military resilience. Did you know we are actively and aggressively hiring a prevention workforce? These positions are all over the world, and span all areas of prevention and resilience. Now is the time! (Obviously I'm biased towards Department of the Navy, but prevention is prevention, no matter which service!) https://lnkd.in/gwc6WBi5 https://lnkd.in/gaJQ4A2n

As a former Fire Control Officer on Mighty Monterey CG 61, I can attest to the importance of tactical qualifications for junior officers. The TAO and subsequent warfare coordinators are entrusted by the CO to keep the ship safe in a fight, and recent events only reinforce the need for competent warfighters. This article sheds light on how we can provide better incentives to enhance the tactical skills of officers. While WTI is filling some gaps, we need to do more to make our officers deadlier warfighters. Check out the article here: https://lnkd.in/eDFYHMpV.

Great article and agree that warfare coordinator qualifications should come with points toward a junior officers (JO) detail journey. On my first ship, JOs didn’t stand CICWO (combat information center watch officer) and instead we were standing SUWC (surface warfare coordinator) or AAWC (anti-air warfare coordinator) and this benefitted us greatly while serving in 7th fleet. I learned way more standing SUWC than standing CICWO, interfacing with TAO (tactical action officer) , learning C&D (command and decisions) and ADS (Aegis display system) vabology vice just Mako chat, diving in to more tactical references and reporting off ship to the Sea Combat Commander watchstander. I proposed this concept at other commands I joined but most weren’t interested, especially since the focus for most JO’s are finishing up EOOW and managing bridge watchstander proficiency (45 days). But that can be easily fixed with alternating watches to maintain bridge proficiency (standing OOD on even days and CIC watch on even days, while another JO has the opposite). Not to mention a lot of JO’s struggle with rapidly getting OOD, CICWO and then hopefully their EOOW on their first tour. All in all, standing a warfare coordinator spot, even if it comes in your second tour, should be the goal for all JO’s. Additionally, I think it’s a huge mistake removing ATTWO from the overall SWO qualification process and like the idea of adding it here as an incentive. It’s a disadvantage for junior officers and their progression as warfighters. It also negatively affects the ship for watchbill writing purposes and maintaining a healthy 6 section duty (if you can obtain that with all other requirements of writing an import duty section watchbill).

Leveraging my power distribution knowledge to volunteer with the Georgia State Defense Force. Downed power lines can be very dangerous after a disaster, and it is important for rescue crews to be aware. Many states have State Guards which are volunteer groups who assist their national guards and communities in an unarmed capacity. Here is an article discussing the initial training for Georgia.

As the window for people to claim they were harmed by contaminated water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune closes on Aug. 10, the unique, massive injury case against the U.S. government remains almost wholly unresolved, with the path forward still unclear. More than 385,000 administrative claims have been filed with the U.S. Navy by people claiming they were harmed by the water at the Jacksonville, North Carolina, military facility, which the government has admitted was tainted with toxic chemicals for more than 30 years beginning in the 1950s. The deadline stops people from bringing more claims. While that number of claims may contain duplicate filings, the Camp Lejeune situation is still likely to be one of the largest personal injury cases of all time, coming close to the number of claims over 3M’s military ear plugs, which has included more than 390,000 cases. If you’re thinking the Air National Guard is just about national defense... The Air National Guard is pretty unique compared to the rest of the Air Force. Unlike the active duty Air Force or the Air Force Reserves, which are federally funded, the Guard is actually state-funded. That means it has a dual mission—sometimes it’s helping out with state-level emergencies, and other times, it’s stepping in to support national security efforts. What I really love about the Guard is how adaptable it is. Whether it’s responding to natural disasters or playing a role in national defense, the Guard is always ready to jump in when needed. It’s a great example of how being flexible is key—not just for organizations, but for all of us. When you can shift gears and step up when the situation demands it, you’re prepared for anything. The Air National Guard is a perfect reminder that staying adaptable and ready for anything helps you contribute on a bigger scale, whether it’s a local crisis or something much larger. #airforce #aviation #airnationalguard #aviationlovers #aviationdaily #viralvideos

There are two important reasons for the significant manpower changes currently rippling through the Air National Guard: First, the United States Air Force continues to lean heavily on the Air National Guard to meet the needs of the National Defense Strategy, including over 94% of the full time homeland air defense mission discussed in this Task & Purpose article, and nearly 50% of CAF/MAF taskings in 2022 & 2023. Second, the United States Congress currently limits the Air National Guard to a maximum of 25,333 AGR jobs across the country to accomplish assigned missions. The result is a growing gap between the needs of the NDS and the current NDAA limit on Air National Guard AGR end strength. The National Guard Bureau is forced to spread an under-sized full time force across a wide range of missions which reduces readiness and increases risk to mission. The solution? The Air National Guard needs additional end strength in order to ensure readiness to accomplish 24/7 no fail national defense missions. The Air National Guard provides flexible service paths that retain some of the United States Air Force’s most experienced Airmen and provide flexible options to meet the needs of the nation and the NDS. This is a tremendous value to the nation, and we must ensure end strength caps enable continued leveraging of the Guard. #nationalguard #airnationalguard #strategy #totalforce https://lnkd.in/eTNxwvYz
