At the recent LogiChem Europe event, Yarelis Hernandez, LYB vice president of supply chain Europe and AFMEI, emphasized the importance of collaboration with suppliers and logistic providers in reducing Scope 3 emissions. The discussions at the event centered on fostering end-to-end supply chain connectivity and reducing emissions, which require new types of collaborations and partnerships. Hernandez cited the electric furnace project LYB is pursuing with Technip Energies and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company as an example of these efforts. This project aims to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions from the cracking furnace by more than 90% using Technip Energies’ electric steam cracking furnace technology, as well as collaboration with organizations such as Smart Freight Center to standardize Scope 3 emissions calculations in the various transportation modes. http://spr.ly/6048j1bYC #LogiChem2024

Collaboration for Advanced Zero-Carbon Ships ABS and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to drive innovation for zero-carbon ships. Announced at Gastech 2024, the partnership will focus on three key technologies: a novel LNG cargo handling system to reduce boil-off gas for zero-carbon carriers, an advanced ammonia fuel supply system for large vessels, and an integrated system to enhance re-liquefaction with cold ammonia. Both companies aim to accelerate decarbonization in shipping, combining ABS’s expertise in sustainability with HD KSOE’s technical innovations to develop next-generation, zero-emission vessels.

When Bernard Looney resigned as bp chief executive amidst a scandal, the BP Pensions Group were looking forward to a more positive dialogue with bp’s new CEO. It also provided opportunity for company leaders to review their position with regards to their cruel treatment of former employees. This opportunity to do the right thing, wasted, whilst company caretakers put on blinkers and sat around writing self-congratulatory bulletins with zero substance. 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐱 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞. From that point it was inevitable that a legal process would have to be initiated as there appears to be no one in bp's leadership with foresight to see that their actions are wrong. Be it legal, honourable, ethical or a simple matter of right or wrong, the company should have admitted their error and put it right. By championing operational and vessel efficiency improvements, alongside the use of cleaner fuels, Shell continues to drive maritime decarbonisation forwards.   We would like to thank Karrie for the shout-out of air lubrication technology. Shell has long shown its confidence in the Silverstream® System and its commitment to pioneering proven clean technologies within shipping. This year, we are celebrating 10 years of partnership since we first started collaborating with Shell and we appreciate the progress we’ve made together.   Shell was a trailblazer and early adopter of our air lubrication technology back in 2014, when we first installed our system on a Shell vessel. In addition to Lloyd’s Register, HSVA, the University of Southampton and Carnival, Shell also independently verified the fuel and emissions savings the Silverstream® System generates.   In 2020, Shell installed the Silverstream® System on the Methane Patricia Camila LNG carrier, which marked the first time Silverstream had installed a system on this ship type. The system was retrofitted on the 170,000 cbm LNG carrier during its planned dry docking at the Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Shipyard in Singapore. Had the pleasure on Friday 7 June to be at the supply chain panel at the North Sea Offshore Summit organized by the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK), together with Ruud de Bruijne, Hugo Buis, Lois Isa Frahm and moderated by Heike Winkler. Always good having an opportunity to repeat some of the important messages: - For the supply chain, volume / pipeline certainty is key. - Uncapped negative bidding does not provide the necessary security on build-out, adds unnecessary pressure on the project cost and could stimulate speculation - it is better to work with e.g. 2-sided CfD models, and to put measures in place that avoid speculation. - Vestas is determined to industrialize its V236-15.0 MW turbine. That is the product that we focus on. - Vestas has high focus on sustainability - this is no discussion topic. - For the greater purpose, focus on project execution is key to ensure we transition to green as we currently plan in the various build-out plans.
