Values and VUCA… Originally coined in the military, many business people recognize the acronym “VUCA” as signifying Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity—possibly the Four Horsemen of the Corporate Apocalyse. Our world is not getting any less #VUCA and organizations cannot even get close to writing enough rules to anticipate the situations we might face on the job. The good news is that #values can fill the gaps between the rules. A values-based organization is intentional, thoughtful and explicit about what it believes, what it stands for, and what it expects of its people. At the same time, it empowers them to analyze challenges through a values lens and make choices that achieve the best possible outcomes based on those values; and it recognizes and rewards good-faith efforts to do so. What do the gaps between the rules look like in your organization?

🚀 Radical Change: Why the DoD Must Embrace Program Cancellations In our discussion last Friday, Dan Ward offered a bold suggestion: the DoD should start more acquisition programs than it can complete and embrace cancellations as a sign of progress. 😱 (This is also in his book, FIRE, which is a must read!) Learn how this competitive approach can refine project selection and foster innovation, and how the 'experimentalist approach' helped a pizza company originally known as "DomiNicks" become a the fastest growing pizza restaurant in the 1980s. This real-world example from the commercial sector highlights a surprising parallel with more modern management for innovation used by "moonshot thinkers" like Alphabet's moonshot factory "X" - https://lnkd.in/eAjXqbA4 👉 How can Air Force leaders leverage this mentality to drive forward-thinking strategies? Dive into Dan's report to find out! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ei-vXS9R

Do you suffer from "analysis paralysis"? This article makes a great case for taking action sooner rather than later. Reading it, couldn't help but think of military strategist Helmuth von Moltke's quote: "No plan survives contact with the enemy." (Yes, I had to look it up! 😉) #marketing #strategy #communications #design
