More than 40 countries or territories have reported at least one #infectiousdisease resurgence that’s 10-fold or more over their pre-pandemic baseline. Airfinity and Bloomberg News have collaborated to analyse the global #data on #disease outbreaks, to better understand the scale of the issue and what's really driving it. We have identified three main factors contributing to these resurgences: falling #vaccination rates, overall decline in population #immunity and #climatechange. To see the full analysis, and explore our new interactive spike map showing the largest outbreaks across the globe, read the below article or visit our website here: https://lnkd.in/eMb8bjvK

Yes, Everyone Really Is Sick a Lot More Often After Covid. Around the world, people are experiencing more frequent illnesses post-Covid. An analysis by Bloomberg News and Airfinity Ltd revealed that at least 13 communicable diseases, including the common cold and measles, are surging past pre-pandemic levels in many regions. Based on data from over 60 organizations and public health agencies, 44 countries have reported at least one infectious disease resurgence ten times worse than pre-pandemic baselines. The pandemic's impact on baseline immunities, vaccine administration, and compliance are contributing factors, alongside climate change, rising social inequality, and strained healthcare services. Influenza cases in the US have jumped about 40% in the past two flu seasons compared to pre-pandemic years. Whooping cough cases in China have increased 45 times in the first four months of this year. Argentina faces its worst dengue outbreak, while Japan sees a mysterious surge of Streptococcal A. Measles is making a comeback in more than 20 American states, the UK, and parts of Europe. Globally, 7.5 million people were newly diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2022, the worst year since World Health Organization began global TB monitoring. The theory of immunity debt suggests pandemic lockdowns shielded people from routine pathogens, leaving them more vulnerable afterward. Public health experts argue that greater surveillance and testing also contribute to higher reported numbers. Ben Cowling, from the The University of Hong Kong, said, "Immunity debt happens, but it doesn’t result in enormous epidemics after Covid." Social inequality, overcrowded living conditions, and poor nutrition add to illness, increasing viral and bacterial pathogens in societies and straining healthcare systems. David OWENS, co-founder of OT&P Healthcare, emphasized that “social inequality is the biggest risk factor for infectious disease.” Vaccination rates fell sharply during the pandemic, causing spikes in preventable illnesses like measles and pertussis. About 25 million children missed at least one dose of the three-shot diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine in 2021. Rebuilding society’s trust in vaccines is crucial, said World Health Organization's chief scientist, Jeremy Farrar. "We’ve got to make the case for science and for vaccines and explain the importance." "Given three years have already passed since Covid arrived, we were very surprised with the 2023 patterns," said Christopher J.L. Murray from the Institute for Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. "Maybe we have more surprises coming." The data, collected up to June 1, shows significant increases in certain diseases in 2024, highlighting the pandemic's long shadow. #Health #HealthCare #Diseases I Jinshan Hong I Bhuma Shrivastava I Bloomberg News I Lulu Shen I Daniela Wei , CFA I Jason Gale I Yasufumi Saito

Measles, tuberculosis, strep throat and dengue are all surging. Flu cases in the U.S. are up 40% over pre-pandemic levels. Cases of whooping cough in China are 45 times higher than pre-pandemic levels. Australia has seen RSV cases double in just the past year. declining vaccination rates — driven by a combination of pandemic-era interruptions and anti-vaccine movements — are also partly to blame.

I reported a blatant false post about Kissinger (I had no time for him, but he very obviously did NOT say what was claimed in the post). I referenced the fact-check (below). The response from LI came immediately, in less than a second: "A member of our Trust & Safety Team reviewed the post and found it does not go against our Professional Community Policies..." Really? The original post and my report were reviewed in literally <second? Obviously not, this was the algorithm firing. Truth is, there is no "team". I dislike being taken for a fool. Also the answer was wrong: the original post was clearly misinformation and easily checked with multiple sources such as Reuters. Yet LI regularly censors decent members who do their best to post accurately. Tom Kirkman - you also noted the post, it does seem to have been removed from the poster's feed, but still the response to me is indicative of how bad the algorithm has become. https://lnkd.in/gFsXG8RA

Welcome 2024, adios 2023! I start the new year sedately, and somewhat apprehensively - there is a calici patient in my house. Not my cat (and hopefully is quarantined enough to not let the virus spread, although all of my cats have been vaccinated completely), a neighbor's cat. Came on Dec 30, and the vets are closed. My personal vet is drowning with ailing and dying cats from a plethora of illnesses, including but not limited to the top 3: Panleukopenia, Calici, Rhinotracheitis. There are other vets, sure, but I do not have the budget to send the cat there. So I am trying my best to tend to her. My realistic self said she'll not make it past 7 days. My optimistic self said her eyes are still bright and alert, she does not throw up, and in spite of the pain she obviously has, still swallows the food I syringe-fed her; there might be a chance yet. My philosophical self said that this may be the template of 2024: however this ailing cat ends up with may just be how I need to view (and work through) 2024. So yes, I'll be back in a week with a 'master plan' on what and how I would need to prepare for 2024. First and foremost is to recondition my brain to type 2024 instead of 2023. :p
