🌨️ International Snow Leopard Day Protecting the Ghost of the Mountains in Nepal ❄️🐆 Today, we celebrate International Snow Leopard Day, a tribute to one of the most elusive and majestic creatures on Earth—the snow leopard. These magnificent cats, often called the “Ghost of the Mountains,” thrive in some of the world’s harshest landscapes, including the stunning Himalayas of Nepal. Nepal is home to a vital population of snow leopards, making our role in their conservation critical. Thanks to the tireless efforts of local communities, conservation organizations, and the government, Nepal has made significant strides in protecting these iconic predators. By mitigating human-wildlife conflict, promoting ecotourism, and strengthening anti-poaching efforts, we are working to secure a future for snow leopards in the wild. But the journey is far from over. Snow leopards face continued threats from habitat loss, climate change, and illegal wildlife trade. Now more than ever, we need to come together to ensure these animals can roam our mountains for generations to come. Let’s raise awareness and continue to support efforts to protect snow leopards and their fragile ecosystems in Nepal and beyond. Could our quest to observe snow leopards in Ladakh reveal deeper insights into conservation's future? After Sir David Attenborough’s latest BBC feature on Asia aired last night, which highlighted the elusive snow leopards, we’re even more inspired to embark on our own snow leopard expedition in December 2025. This journey, led by acclaimed photographer Mattias Klum and expert Behzad Jehangir Larry, is not just about tracking these incredible creatures, but about delving into the cultural and ecological fabric that sustains them. In Ladakh’s rugged mountains, we find not only the breathtaking beauty of nature but also a complex relationship between wildlife and the local communities that coexist with it. The High Asia Habitat Fund plays a vital role here, promoting sustainable practices that support both the local population and the delicate ecosystems they inhabit. Through responsible tourism, we can create economic opportunities that discourage practices harmful to wildlife, such as retaliatory killings of snow leopards. Key to this expedition is understanding how community-led conservation can shift perceptions of wildlife. When snow leopards are seen as assets, rather than threats, it fosters coexistence that benefits both ecological health and local livelihoods. This journey goes beyond tracking snow leopards; it’s about engaging with local cultures, sharing knowledge, and inspiring a commitment to conservation that endures long after the expedition ends. What role do you think local communities should play in conservation efforts for our planet's most vulnerable species? Let us know your thoughts below https://lnkd.in/efvbejdq #JourneysWithPurpose #SustainableTravel #ConservationTravel #TravelWithPurpose #BBC #DavidAttenborough #DavidAttenboroughAsia #HighAsiaHabitatFund #MattiasKlum #BehzadJLarry #SnowLeopards #Himalayas #India

Initial findings from a recent Operation Swimway expedition in the Caribbean are providing important insights into the migratory behaviors of the studied shark species. The first data collected from silky sharks indicate a preliminary affinity for the waters surrounding Antigua, suggesting that this area serves as a key habitat for this species. The data collected from the tagged tiger sharks in contrast reveal a broader range of movement, reflecting the species’ adaptability and extensive migratory behavior. While some individuals’ travels ranged as far north as St. Maarten and south to Montserrat, most tagged tiger sharks migrated southwards, corroborating existing knowledge of regional shark migration patterns. The insights gained are instrumental in advancing regional conservation goals by providing a scientific basis for identifying and protecting key habitats and migratory corridors for these threatened species of sharks in the Caribbean. Happy World Whale Shark Day! 🐳🦈 This is an interview from a couple of years ago for World Whale Shark Day. 🐳 🐳🦈🐳🦈🐳🦈🐳🦈🐳🦈🐳🦈🐳🦈 Recalling an epic adventure when two whale sharks were right on our doorstep #inabudhabi - and the subsequent rescue by our Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi and National Aquarium Abu Dhabi teams. In a two week period we completed two world record whale shark rescues. That is one of the things I love about the ocean and marine conservation - you never know what's around the corner in wildlife rescue...🦈🐳🤟🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳#abudhabi #uae #neom #saudiarabia #ocean #marineconservation #whaleshark #whalesharks

International Snow Leopard Day reminds us of the importance of protecting one of the rarest and most elusive big cats on the planet. The snow leopard, a symbol of the mountains, is not only a predator but a key to preserving biodiversity and sustaining valuable ecosystems. In Pakistan, there are estimated to be between 300-400 snow leopards, with the majority found in the rugged landscapes of Gilgit-Baltistan, which is home to 60-70% of the country’s snow leopard population. These magnificent creatures are included in the IUCN Red List and are critically protected in all 12 countries of their range. By protecting the snow leopard, we contribute to the sustainable development of local communities and our planet. 🪸 Sea-horsing around! 🪸 Though often associated with tropical, warm waters, here in the UK we have 2 species of seahorse! 💚 The Short-snouted and Long-snouted Seahorses are native to the UK and can be seen primarily in the South of England where they can be quietly thriving in seagrass meadows. Some Seahorse Facts: 🌊 Seahorses are often monogamous although recent research has found that not all of them mate for life 🍼 In a seahorse family it is the male that carries and delivers the babies 🎪 They are very stylish marine acrobats, they use their prehensile tails to anchor themselves in strong currents 👀 With each eye being able to move independently, they can be on the lookout for snacks and predators at the same time! They are more than just beautiful to look at, seahorses are an indicator of marine health and are closely tied to seagrass habitats, which are essential for biodiversity. Protecting these habitats benefits countless other species and ensures seahorses continue to enchant our coastal waters. #Seahorses #MarineConservation #Biodiversity #Seagrass #RewildTheSeas

#GoBetterWithOluokos Our feathered friends are part of us in so many ways! This has continued for a very long time in history. For many personal, societal and conservation reasons birdwatching provides huge amounts of benefits conservationists, birdwatching safari companies and researchers in general. For birders, Africa remains to be the best destinations on earth. Africa is blessed with diverse vegetation from coastal estuaries, swamps, desert, open savannah, rain forests to mountain moorlands and the peaks that give Africa added advantage to birding safaris. https://lnkd.in/d-uvXzcj
